Default Let's Dream for a Second

Scenario 1: We Get Bryce and Bryson Williams

Starters

BT
Goldwire
Harkless
Williams
Groves

Bench
Gibson
Hill
J Groves
Noland
Cortes
Mason
O'Garro
Issanza

Scenario 2: We get Jaxson Robinson and Ethan Chargois

Starters
Goldwire
Gibson
Harkless
Hill
Groves

Bench
J Groves
Chargois
Noland
J Robinson
Cortes
Mason
O'Garro
Issanza

That first team would be absolutely nasty on the defensive end with enough offensive pop to be dangerous come tournament time. Second group is a tournament team no question ... but probably doesn't have enough consistent offense to make a deep run. Thoughts?

Now, lots of scenarios: Get Williams and Robinson or Chargois and Thompson, etc. but this is a good position to be in right now.

I love to dream. BT and williams we can compete for a conf championship.

2nd team will be top half in big 12.

either way this team will be able to defend and score.

Going to be tough sledding scoring against either of those starting units.

Team one wins the B12
Team two is a top 3 B12 team
Either team is capable of a deep tourney run...

Texas, Kansas, and West Virginia are going to be really good. I worry that second team doesn't have the bench scoring/experience to compete at a top 3 level through the conference slate.

Didn't texas lose a bunch of guys to the portal/pro ball (I know they've brought some replacements in)?

Have looked at a number of highlight videos.

No chance to get a handle on defense system(s)

On offense they do a lot of screening and often a second screen frees a scorer. They did an exceptional job of moving away from the ball, slipping screens rolling off for easy layups, and back door cuts.

I think Gibson will benefit a great deal in the offense. No question he can shoot but often had a very hard time getting open. This offense seems tailor made for him.

Hill could also benefit. I have always thought he had a lot more to offer but the OU offense was heavy one on one and he doesn't fit that system.

If we don't get other players we should still have a good team. I haven't seen film on the three incoming frosh but from the reps I suspect Noland has the best chance of significant playing time.

So I see Tanner, Hill, Goldwire, Gibson and Harkless starting, with Jacob, Roland and possible Cortes off the bench. Big Rick if Tanner needs out.

The Groves brothers both seem to move very well for their size. I like the way they both finish inside and Jacob seems to have potential offense outside, midrange and inside. Goldwire also good finisher among the trees but I don't expect him to be a big scorer. Good assist guy though.

Based on a recent article and posts on UT's 247 site, I don't think those guys have decided yet, e.g. Kai Jones, Greg Brown, Matt Coleman, and Jericho Sims. I also read that Harmon's decision about UT could hinge on whether Coleman returns or not.

Also, I didn't mention Baylor because they're totally badass regardless of who comes back.

I look at this situation a lot like the situation of Grimes transferring to Houston. Houston and OU both need/needed a scorer with a lot of the other pieces in place. I wasn’t sure how Grimes would adapt to Sampson’s defensive/rebound first mentality but he actually flourished in the system especially last year leading the team in scoring but playing solid defense.

If Thompson would buy into the idea of playing lock down defense I don’t see the harm in telling the guy he’s going to get his shots because as others have pointed out, this type of offense will get a lot of guys shots.

As far as starting, on paper he would be the most prolific sccorer on the team and that kind of guy isn’t coming in to sit.

Has Thompson given any kind of timetable to decide?

Agreed. Gibson plays sixth man/offensive spark off the bench. Plenty of time go around playing a smaller lineup. But BT starts day one and probably at the lead guard spot.

Would OU wait for him to decide or would they take someone else if available?

Pure guess. Id say wait for a bit. I think hell announce in the next 2 weeks.

I think theyll take a big ASAP. Williams (texas likely) or ethan Cargois after williams picks.

then wait for bryce.

We can get Jaxon anytime.... Even if he commits elsewhere..

Wow. So you're saying Jaxon wants to go to OU so bad OU has the luxury of waiting? What a turn.. Wonder what changed from not really considering OU at all to really wanting to come? Man, recruiting...
