I'm allowed to have an opinion on Shackelford. I don't think he changes the trajectory of our program. Outside of about 2 games, he numbers weren't very good over Bama's last 15 or so games. Volume scorer. Nearly as many turnovers as assists per game. Starter and leading scorer on a Sweet 16 team looking to transfer out (think about what that likely means).

If the kid was so great, he wouldn't be down to OU, TT, and tOSU (before their recent transfer). He'd have a better list of suitors.

But we'll see.

Effective field goal % was 53% over last 16 games. That’s comparable to Harmon’s numbers … considering how many shots he got up, that’s an impressive number.

Not sure why he’s uninteresting to you…

Maybe just letting him go quietly. He could end up with Absmas at ORU and do really well.

Could be.

But there are other current college kids playing in it.

DJ Walter - Oklahoma Christian
Moun'Tae Edmundson Jr. - Oklahoma Christian
Ronald Moore - Southwestern Christian
Cameron Bell - West Texas A&M
Jacquez Yow - Hutch CC

None of those are D1 one guys obviously.

Rondel Walker (OSU) was out there as well, at least coaching.

I agree with Boulder. I think this tourney may be a sign Johnson is no longer on the team. Think about it. The practice video showed his teammates running plays and working on defense with OU’s coach, while MJ is getting ready to participate in a tournament that will charge an admission. The possibility of an injury alone tells me he does not have permission from OU to play in that tournament.

Add the fact that OU is still actively recruiting players in the transfer portal and IMO all signs point to a player who is likely making decisions on his own now. That was certainly the case when he got behind the wheel of the vehicle he was driving.

Just my opinion. I have no inside information.

I understand not liking a players skillset. But your comment about being a volume scorer and poor efficiency is provably false

Especially if we are comparing him to M. Johnson

I would think it would be okay for an appearance. But they cannot be paid for playing in the tournament or game, as the OK NIL state law prohibits any contracts based on playing or performance.

It sounds like Johnson is gone, which I hope is true. It's one thing if he was well established here, but he's not, and he's not worth the headache. The football team already has the Fulmer Cup locked up for us, so we don't need any additional points.

If Obanor is willing to come, I think Rick has to be shown the door as well. It's cutthroat, but he entered the portal on his own volition

I would say no. They can be paid for image/likeness but playing in a game would be a liability that OU would not accept. I can’t see OU agreeing to that at all, especially for someone who just transferred into the program.

I saw his other one telling the fans to "keep it coming" the positive noise...man, this is just crazy now. As I said in that thread on him...it'll be interesting if these kids, who want all this praise and NIL $$, can handle the criticism, when they fail..

I just think all this is trying to "make his brand" ....but I'm old school

It would be interesting to know what's going on behind the scenes. I posted something in this thread a day or so ago about his value being estimated at $300k for a year in Lubbock. If true, pure insanity.

If Obanor commits to Tech, would they have another scholarship to take Shackelford?

From what I've read on their boards, they have the room for both.
