With Russell committing to tOSU, it fills a spot of one of Shackelford's final three. It would be between us and Tech.

Can't imagine a better fit than here for a program that would get him the recognition equal or better than Bama. Plus, if Moser is moving away from Johnson, it would give him the option to be a combo guard, playing on the wing and splitting time with Goldwire at PG, since the two freshmen are the only backups at the point.

The only question if he comes here, who does that put on the bench? Mo now as the 6th man? Groves, Harkless, and Goldwire are certain, as I would think Chargois. Leaves a spot at the 2.

A 1 for 1 swap of Shackelford for Johnson would be a huge win for OU.

Remind me again why we're keeping somebody on scholarship who expressed their desire not to be here? If that keeps us from Shackleford...

It apparently isnít keeping us from Shackleford, OUís been on 3 big time transfers that were heavily pursued by the staff. That means there is a scholarship open.

So who is leaving? Has to be Johnson or Issanza right?

HmmmÖI wonder if they would replace Johnson with ShackledordÖIF he chooses OU, but if not, decide to keep Johnson, under the assumption he paid his price via the proper punishment (game suspensions + Running steps or whatever else).

Iíd hate to not have eitherÖpurely from a basketball standpoint.

Shackelford isn't a very efficient scorer. I don't think he would add a ton to our current roster. If he replaces Johnson, that is a pretty equal swap on talent. If he replaces Issanza, and Shackelford wins minutes, he is likely winning them from somebody that would produce at a similar level (IMO). Russell was similar, but at least shot it a little better from 3.

Truth is, both probably had us on their lists previously, and OU really isn't much of a player down the stretch, but keeping our name on there makes the transferees look a little better. I'd be surprised if we end up with either, but stranger things have happened.

I would agree that Shackelford would be the preferred player.

Competition at Alabama > Eastern Illinois
Shoots 3PFG at 36% > 30%
FT% 77% > 73%
Minutes about =
PPG over two years 15PPG > 12 PPG

Plus Shackelford gives the option of a combo guard, backup PG.

One is an NBA caliber guy, the other isnít.

I doubt Shackelford ends up at OU but he would improve the roster tremendously.

Are we really complaining about the leading scorer on a top 5 team? Do you think we're that loaded next year?

Uh Ö his effective FG% is north of 50. That is the definition of an effective scorer.

I'm not sure how many spots they have at Tech, but their fans really want Obanor. So does every other fanbase in his top ten though.

They also made Texas State transfer Isiah Small's top 5 - return back to Texas State, Texas Tech, Depaul, Texas A&M, and Texas

I agree, if that tweet is accurate, OU is a better spot than Tech IMO.

This is crazy talk, WT. He and groves would be our best players. He was arguably the best player on a top 5 team in the sec.

i thought we got a little lucky against Bama....they were inconsistent but were a very dangerous, elite team but not always. UCLA team that beat them in OT was really coming on....obviously.

maybe Porter gets on the blower to Lincoln R and has Jalen Hurts give Shackleford a call....

If you have a 247 account, read the thread on the Illini site

https://247sports.com/college/illino...nor-167641310/

If you can't read it, it's talking about these transfers getting projected NIL amounts from opendorse.

For example, apparently Texas Tech's projected NIL amount for Obanor is $300k.

Stuff like this has to be hurting OU? I have to admit, I've mostly ignored the NIL stuff.
