Future Sooners all winners!!
Yesterday all the Sooner commits won their high school games.
Ellenburghs Bishop Gorman won at conference foe Western 88-32.
Courtney Walkers Edmond Santa Fe team beat PC West 62-21 and Courtney had 17 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. The game was 29-10 at the half as Santa Fe applied a strong defense holding PC West to just 3 field goals by the half time. It was 50-12 after 3 periods as West was held to only 2 points in the 3rd. period. If Courtney had played a little longer she might have got a triple-double.
Nicole Griffens Milwaukee Vincent team won at Milwaukee Madison 79-52. Nicole had 24 points making 8 field goals and 8 free throws in limited playing time as all 11 players scored. Vincent led 22-10 after 1 period, 43-25 at the half, 61-39 after 3 periods. After 6 games Griffen is averaging 15.8ppg having made 32 field goals, 1 - 3 pointer, and 28 free throws.
Plano West beat conference foe Allen 58-31, Jeffcoat scored 14 points and Yancey scored 13 points. Plano West is now 14-10, 1-0. They led 20-9 after 1 period, 32-17 at the half, 51-29 after 3 periods.
My wife and I went to watch the Midwest City Bombers play at Edmond Memorial yesterday. Midwest City won 51-34.
Midwest City led 14-9 after 1 period and was up 24-15 at the half. Richa Jackson had 16 points, but she really did not stand out at this game. Her and the two sophmore guards that was being used rarely tried to get it into Kaylon Williams who had height over everyone.
Kaylon did not score in double figures because her team didn't attempt to get the ball to her much. Kaylon Williams looked like she will be a good player, but it was hard to tell as she rarely got the ball. The whole Midwest City team seemed bored which the game as they didn't seem to be putting in much effort.
If they were playing 2A Brock, then I would favor the Brock team from what we saw last night.
Kamy Cole's Brock Eagles beat conference foe Millsap 66-31. Kamy was the games leading scorer with 26 points in limited playing time. The score was 34-17 at the half. Next up for Brock is conference foe Alvord a team Brock beat by 23 and 30 points last year.

Those are good stats. She needs to work on her 3 pt shooting but there is still plenty of time to do that before she gets to OU.

She goes to Edmond Santa Fe, right? And is that where Richa Jackson is from?

Re: Future Sooners all winners!!
Here's how I rate the OU commits I have watched play at least 1 game so far:
Under 6'2": (number of games viewed)
2012 5' 9" Kamy Cole of #1 2A Brock (2)
2012 5' 9" Courtney Walker of #3 6A Edmond Santa Fe (2)
2010 5' 8" Morgan Hook of #5 7A Rogers, Ark. (3)
2010 5' 8" Alexann Yancey of unranked 5A Plano West, Tx. (1)
Over 6' 2"
2010 6' 6" Nicole Griffen of #1 Div 1 Milwaukee Vincent, Wisc. (1)
2011 6' 3" Kaylon Williams of #1 6A Midwest City, OK. (1)
2010 6' 2-3" Jacqueline Jeffcoat of unranked 5A Plano West, Tx. (1)
Have not seen Ellenburg play yet, but her stats against good competition make her look like the best guard we'll be getting next season.

Can you tell us what you like best about Cole and Hook? Do either remind you of any current or past OU players?

Re: Future Sooners all winners!!
Kamy Cole has speed, speed, speed oh and she has a nice shooting touch from anywhere, but what she really does best is play defense.
An opponent guard can steal the ball from Brock and race down the court ahead of the other girls and Kamy can often catch up and get ahead to defend before the girl can get to the basket.
She guards her assigned player with her arms up and you can see her eyes are on the ball carrier watching her body language just waiting to steal a pass.
When Kamy races down the court nobody catches up to her.
She is no ball hog sometimes to a fault. Like Whitney Hand she will pass up an open shot to get the ball to a teammate to get them involved.
She has a nice 3 point shot, shoots free throws well and she anticipates where the ball is going to go as good as anyone I've seen.
It's hard to believe she is still only a sophmore.
Morgan Hook in the 3 games I watched did not live up to her stats as she made very few shots, but played above average on defense. I was more impressed with sophmore Courtney Walker in the 2 games I saw her play in. She can hit the 3 point shot when she doesn't force it and she can drive the lane much like Drob and she has a quick 1st. step to get out in front of others. She too plays very well for a sophmore.
I was not very impressed with Yancey, of course I only got to see her play in 1 game, but in that game she looked to have more turnovers than baskets. She did not seem to have the speed of the 3 guards mentioned above.

Re: Future Sooners all winners!!
Kamy Cole reminds me of Whitney Hand, but with Nye speed.
Courtney Walker reminds me of Drob, but with a decent 3 point shot.
Kaylon Williams reminds me of thinner Ashley Paris.
Nicole Griffen reminds me of Becky Preston, but taller and with a longer reach to alter shots, I think she could become better then Becky was.
Morgan Hook reminds me of Jenny Vining when I saw her play in high school only a little quicker.
Alexann Yancey reminds me of Willis.
Jeffcoat reminded me of Amanda the 1st. time I saw her go for a rebound, but it was the only time in the game she did that well, after that she played more like Rose Hammond only taller.

Very interesting comparisons! Having Williams and Griffin both in the post at the same time could be a really good combination.
It will be interesting to see how things work out as far as Ellenberg, Walker, Cole, and Hook when they all arrive. That will be 4 very good players competing for 3 positions. If I were to guess, I would pencil in Ellenberg at PG, Cole at SG, and Hook at SF.

I am assuming you are taking into account after Whitney graduates, because Kami or Morgan may have to wait their turn until she is gone.

Actually, it did slip my mind that Whitney will only be a sophomore next year. Unless I really think about or am reminded, I keep wanting to put her in the junior class next year. Okay, that's FIVE good players competing for 3 positions.
That might be a great time to consider redshirting someone.

I know this board has weighed the pros and cons of redshirting in women's basketball. My point is if a student athlete is going to take 4 1/2 or 5 years to complete a degree, or even wants to take grad courses, I would like to think if you have talent on your bench that a coach would be open to a kid that wants to stick around and improve their chances for longer playing time.
I am on both sides of the fence on this deal, but I have no problem at all with using a redshirt for the benefit of the student, team, or coach.

I agree. It can be a really good thing for all concerned in certain situations.

Re: Future Sooners all winners!!
Whitney should be a senior when Cole and Walker become freshmen.
So how about then jr. Griffen at center, Williams then a so. at the 4, Whitney then a sr. at the 3, Hook then a jr. or freshman, walker at the 2 and Ellenburg then a jr. at the 1.
Yancey then a jr. backing up the point, Jeffcoat then a jr. subing in for the bigs, Morrison subing for the 2 spot.

I like everything you have said except don't forget Joanna. She will either start at the 4 and/or back up both the center position and power forward. Looks like a pretty solid team for 2012/2013.

Re: Future Sooners all winners!!
Your right I missed Jo, I would have her at the 4 spot and the sophmore Williams sharing time with Griffen and backing up the 4 spot when needed.
I think the 2012 could be a top 10 team, pick up a few more quality players in the next 2 recruiting seasons and we could be looking at a final 4 team again by then.
