Teams like utep might not even have a basketball program this time next year.

Yikes. Really seems to validate those that weren't concerned about his departure.

He will regret this move someday. He had a much better situation at ou than his play deserved and krugers ass would have continued it..

Who would you have played over him? Apparently LK & staff had a meeting with him challenging him to be more aggressive & work on his shot. Doesn’t sound like Kruger was wanting his offense to continue that way.

I'm not sad he's transferring. Im saying JB had a dream scenario for him and kruger prolly would have given similar minutes to JB regardless

Not if Gibson gets elible he wouldn’t have unless his offense turned around. I think he’d be a great 6th man, I’d compare him to Hornbeak.

UTEP media is acting like he is immediately eligible. From a pure basketball perspective, this is a good move for him. He could have chosen a better place to live, but again, from a basketball perspective this is pretty perfect for him.

Is he eligible next season?

What's so wrong with El Paso? I've not spent time there, but what i've read, it's a pretty nice place to live. The crime rate there is very low.

I used to have El Paso in my territory for work. It's a great city and I enjoyed every trip that I took there. If you aren't into the dry, desert type climate.....then it probably isn't for you. However, the food/cuisine and outdoor recreational activities that it offers are superb.

I grew up in Odessa and really liked West Texas. It was excellent for kids who like doing outside stuff. Monahans springs, rattlesnake roundups, wildlife - I dug it. Maybe not good for 20-somethings though.

It was just hard to see better offers coming his way. Not trying to bash the kid, but there isn't much of a market in today's game for kids that can't (didn't) score it well. He struggled far beyond what his stats suggested this year, IMO.

Nothing is wrong with El Paso... MicT said living in El Paso was worst possible outcome. I've never been there, don't know much about it... I was just trying to make a point that even if you think that, this was a good basketball move for him.

My wife and I, and mom and dad went to the OU football game there in '12. Before we arrived I had preconceived notions and fears that i'd get kidnapped by a cartel, or get hit by a bullet sitting in the stadium. Not really but kind of. I did think that it would be a dump of a town.

Boy was I wrong. We enjoyed our entire time there, from our very nice but affordable hotel to being able to actually walk on the field from the parking lot an hour and half before the game. We drove up into some neighborhoods in some hills with some beautiful overlooks. Of course, it was September and hotter than Hades.

It was MUCH nicer than I thought. We ate at some incredible restaurants, one that bragged about being in New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico. There was a nice mall and some very nice, clean shopping retail centers where we were. It seemed to be pretty safe, but at certain spots on the road that ran along the border the Mexican side was RIGHT THERE and you could see all the shanties and poverty. So close if somebody wanted to take a shot....

I'm not sure if i'd ever want to live all the way out there, but like others have said I love that type of terrain and I like West Texas. El Paso way surpassed my expectations...

there are shanties and poverty all over the world. I'd prefer that people saw them right up front.

SG: Keonte Kennedy (6'5'' 205)
-Transfer from Xavier.

PF: Bryson Williams (6'8'' 230)
-First Team All C-USA... Ranked third in C-USA in points per game (17.8) and ranked fifth in rebounding per contest (7.2).

C: Efe Odigie (6'9'' 255)

I see no reason JB should be eligible next year.

Apparently the 1 time transfer will be good to go next year. So the speculation is the NCAA will be lenient this year bc they don’t want to mess with it.

So, why won’t our transfers be eligible next season?

It sounds like there is a decent chance ours will be.

It still might be a bit of a culture shock for Jamal. El Paso is closer to San Diego than it is to his hometown in the Houston area. But they do love their hoops there.

I have to admit I found this hard to believe, but you're right (though it's only about 20 miles closer). I never would have guessed that.

Not so fun fact, the Night Stalker Richard Ramirez was from El Paso and routinely commuted to and from Los Angeles via bus.
