2020 class will be a fun one to watch.

Lot going on.

Afraid they are behind on thompson these days

I still think Lampkin comes if OU wants him.

2020 class has been quiet. HS season getting going, coaches will be out and about.

Lampkin's HS team is really good and he's a good player but they basically have to play 2-3 every game because he just can't guard man-to-man. Very limited defensively.

Cryer is an absolute stud. Lampkin's good but I can absolutely see being hesitant with him. Getting in a college weight room with a dietician will help but it's hard to say how much of a difference it will ultimately make. And he's still just 6'7" or so. It's not like he's 6'10". I'm not sure who he'll ever he able to guard.

Going to watch Lampkin's team play tomorrow night against a really good team led by UT recruit Donovan Williams. Should be a really good playoff game.

I went to see Lampkin's Katy Morton Ranch team play last night. I've seen him play a few times and I'd be surprised if OU wants him more than he wants OU. He's big -- 6'8 or 9 and he's got to be at least 260. He's incredibly slow-footed. He can't guard anyone man-to-man and even in a zone he's slow to react. Offensively he knows how to post up but he has no -- Literally 0 -- low post moves. He sometimes turns to shoot but he's a bad shooter. How does a junior that size who intends to play high D1 ball not have a jump hook? But he doesn't seem to. He got a few putbacks and was either 2-6 Or 2-8 from the foul line. His field goals were literally from under the basket. He absolutely cannot shoot, even from 6-8 feet away. It's bad.

He was mostly guarded 1-on-1 by a guy who was about 6'3 and maybe 200. He was literally giving away half a foot and 60 pounds to Lampkin and Fort Bend Elkins still didn't feel the need to double him most of the time. Lampkin should've been moving that guy all over the place to get position but he would just turn around and post up from 8 feet away rather than taking the low block. I tried to think of a current Big 12 Player he reminds me of. The only guy I could come up with is Polla. Imagine if Polla was 6'8" instead of 6'11". And Polla has some offensive moves, though he's ponderously slow and can't really defend anyone.

There are 2 things Lampkin does well, IMO. First, he's an excellent passer out of the post. You just don't see many HS posts who can hit cutters or get the ball successfully to the diagonal the way he can. I'll bet he had 4 or 5 assists. It's a good thing, too, bc he can't score on his own without stumbling upon on offensive rebound. The other thing he does well is wall up defensively on driver's and defend without fouling. He knows how to get vertical and create a wall that makes it difficult to shoot over. I get the sense that he's a pretty smart player.

My feeling, though -- and maybe Kruger & the staff feel differently -- is that he's not Big 12 good. He's an SFA guy or Sam Houston St maybe. Maybe Tulsa would take a chance that he could get in really good shape and develop some moves. I just can't see him being ready to play at OU in 20 months. No way.

The game also featured Lampkin's fantastic teammate, L.J. Cryer. He's a PG who was pretty easily the best player on the court, though he hurt his team with a few too many turnovers in the 4th. Ultimately, he just didn't have enough help. The Elkins team featured UT recruit Donovan Williams who is really athletic but wasn't even the best player on his team last night and I can't see him getting real Big 12 minutes next year either. He's 6'5" & athletic but can't shoot and can't use his left hand. Even when he drove left he used his right hand. Big 12 guards and wings will destroy him. He's got a long way to go. Think a right-handed Odomes who's shorter and not as strong.

So this is who OU is resorting to for 2020...good to know. Not a chance at the quality players on the court, but the one who is 6'8" and is easily guarded by someone 6" shorter than him. Not ripping the kid at all. He will play NCAA basketball somewhere. But the staff should not make him a priority.

Heck, he even found a way to criticize Buddy Hield and our Final Four team. Eighty percent or more of his posts about anything OU are negative. Donít believe me, check his posting profile.
