I loved Benny's tools/potential. I would actually sit there and watch German games (live) when they'd air. Good athlete, shooter, etc. Really looked like a kid who could develop into a starter.
Sad but such is life.

To be fair college basketball is full of guys from overseas that are having success. OU's misses, to date, have been pretty minor (meaning a small number of them).

Re: MBB Portal Thread 2
I remember posters, A few years ago, say Uwakor was going to be a stud. We he isn't. So I guess we're all entitled to bad take about a player's potential. This may be mine:
Losing Shroeder is bad. Reason 1: Moser went to freaking Europe to get him. And now it's just an absolute waste. And that's not the kid's fault. At least get SOME return on the investment. Play the kid enough to see what he really can do. Maybe he was like Oweh and just needed consistency.
Reason 2: Moser is supposedly "building" using freshman. Well, one just left. Now Moser has to go to the portal to replace him. And Moser's track record with the portal is bad. I actually think he's pretty good at evaluating high school talent. Portal, not so much. I trust that he saw something in Shroeder's game when he recruited him. Why shouldn't you do everything you can to keep him around? And that is most likely playing time.
Reason 3, and the reason that ties it all together: 6'7 guard that plays above the rim... with three years of eligibility left. My goodness. Even if he's not polished, you can't coach that. How badly did OU need length at the guard position this year? Not everyone will agree with me, but I think he should have got more minutes as Oweh got more. I think he would have greatly improved and would be an important part of the team next year. Imagine having Shroder, Uzan, and Oweh, PLUS the incoming freshmen on the same team next year. That would be the athleticism we fans have so desperately wanted for years. Again, he didn't have to be super polished yet. Oweh and Uzan aren't.
I may be wrong on Shroeder. He may end up being a bust. But I honestly would rather have him be OU's bust then watch him tear it up at another school in the next few years.
I think what makes this more painful for a fan like me, is Moser played Noland and Jacob Groves for so long even when it was so obvious they weren't going to cut it this year. I have zero faith that Moser has any clue what he is doing with the roster.
Now, if someone has insider info that can refute anything I said I am more than willing to be completely wrong.

Re: MBB TBT2
I don’t really get how most agree that next year is a HUGE year for Moser and we are in need of a BIG talent increase, then guys transfer out that probably weren’t going to make that big of a leap next year, and people get upset about it.
I get not wanting a bunch of roster turnover normally. But this isn’t normally. This is a coach literally coaching for his job, knowing he has to upgrade the talent big time. This isn’t an offseason where you want to just “retain talent” because it’s good for the program.
He has to completely revamp the roster with talent, or he won’t be here in a year, and these players that a lot of people are bummed about transferring out now, will be transferring in a year.
Literally the only players that need to stay in my opinion is Uzan, Oweh, and Godwin (Hill is leaving by all accounts, so I’m not including him in this). If literally ANYONE else on the roster decides to leave, I don’t think the program will be hurt NEXT YEAR, and that’s all Moser should be caring about right now.

Longcat tweet and I apologize lol.
Are we sure anyone's working at OU right now? Maybe they're on vacation.
(not being completely serious FWIW but Timberlake and Austin are two kids I would at least contact)

I think I mentioned this kid on Scoop before I left. Not due to any contact by OU...but simply because he's a kid that I thought would portal.
He's good. Shot 44% from 3P.

Good points. But a coach also has to look at what the team needs most. One can't just revamp a roster because that's what is expected when he's in the hot seat. There's got to be some tact behind it. I think we can all agree that athleticism and length is what Moser should be after. OU desperately needs those two things, and that is what Shroeder had (at the very least). But now that length and athleticism is gone, and we have to trust that Moser can go find another athletic guard, with length from the portal. Oh and one that wants to go to OU.
On the contrast, I will not be sad at all if Noland, and/or J. Groves leaves. Why? Because OU needs better athletes than them. If OU was full of really good athletes but lacked basketball skill then things would be different. Maybe the loss of one of the top athletes on the team wouldn't hurt so much.

I don’t think any of us know how good the German kid is because he never played. If you’re going to recruit a kid from Europe, he needs to stay more than one season. Good grief. What a giant waste of time and resources.

This would be almost comical if it happens. Sticking with a 5th-year guy with a ceiling about two inches above the ground.

FWIW, I'm mostly kidding on Jacob.
At the end of the day, I'm going to cheer for whoever dons the C&C. Even the ones who make by eyes bleed.
....also, I kind of have my eye on Dildy. Some of his twitter follows have been odd recently. Numerous HS ballers from Massachusetts and today, the basketball ops person at Loyola MD (Sydney Hines).

We have bigger issues than J. Groves getting backup minutes at the 3/4. Not saying he is a stud, just that we have bigger issues. If he stays and starts? That's an issue. Don't see that happening though with PM's comments about what he is looking for.
Also, if the rumors are to be believed, Collins is a big man at Kentucky that will be heading this way.....after UK's tourney is over, of course.
