Good... I wouldn't support public funding of this.

I wasn't a big fan of the public funding however, I think it would have been cool. And the city definitely would have made some coin off of the project so I understand trying to get public funding.

How does OU staying at Lloyd Noble help the City of Norman? I go to every game and I actually WANT something to do before and after games without having to travel across town and back for the game. There seems to be a pretty big disconnect between the younger generations and the boomers in Norman and very little effort seems to be aimed at keeping the younger generations here. It may not seem like a big deal now, but it will be.

From the story:

"Though the OU Foundation has said they plan to pursue development of the land, tonight's vote means they will most likely do so without public financing."

I had read the TIF (i.e., sales tax dollars generated) would have paid for half of the arena and parking. So I disagree with this premise.

only the increase on the tax of the currenty undevloped property

which now will stay undeveloped for the forseeable future thus that money doesn't exist

I had also read that there are restrictions on that property with the developer of the south side. In order to release those restrictions, the penalties for not reaching the revenue goals on the south side were going to have to be forgiven. That sounds like city money.

Also, the property may be developed despite the lack of TIF.

I understand the pros of the plan (especially for OU basketball), but I don’t think it’s as one-sided as you suggest (for the city and its residents).

I don't think that is a fair way of looking at it.

If it was passed, the money to pay for some of it would be from the people of norman

The people of Oklahoma have long been willing to cut off their nose to spite the face RE: any suggested tax increase. It's one of the reasons Oklahoma is just about dead last in any counting metric among US states. It has always driven me nuts. It's like people one day learned that government spending can be wasteful (which it absolutely can be), and decided that the way to prevent wasteful government spending is just to never fund anything.
