Default Give Us Your Game Plan

In order to beat Baylor tomorrow, we definitely will need to control both Niya Johnson and Nina Davis.

We will need to control scoring and rebounding by Davis and assists and easy ball movement by Niya.

How would you accomplish those two tasks? Who would you assign to guard each? How much zone would you employ, if any?

You could try a triangle and 2. I'd hate to run a man defense simply because I think they will play us physically and will rack up found on us. However with a zone you have the risk of the posts not rotating over or helping the other defender.

1. Forget that it is Baylor.
2. Play defense as though your life depended on it.
3. When you are open, shoot.
4. Throw a wall around the backboard on a shot.

Forget about Davis and Johnson. They beat you because you didn't do your job. You let Nina get to the offensive boards. You left Niya a lane. Don't do that.

Well, if you can stop Niya one on one, thats obviously how u beat them. But thats not realistic for us. U gotta Stop Niya with multiple defenders or run a zone. Give them the low percentage jumpers. Nina Davis gets most of her buckets cause Niya gets in deep at will- U can't let her get that deep or they will score at will. They're also really good at getting out on the break, Again with Niya. You take care of the ball, turnovers will be pts on the other end- Keep the Rebound difference down, too many gives them lots of chances to get the break goin- and stop ball! Lots of talk.-- But I like our chances this time around- I really do.

I have been watching a replay of us at Iowa State. We started off well and got up by 12.

With about 10 minutes left in the first half, Sherri put Lanesia and Tiona in at the same time and the lead disappeared in about 4 minutes. They could not score, could not rebound, could not defend. Even after putting the starters back in, we just had a terribly hard time getting the momentum stopped.

We must NOT do that foolishness tomorrow night - and that IS in our control.

In addition, Iowa State was really bad about going over our backs to get rebounds, disrupt, etc. But since the officials would not call it they kept it up. At one point they had shot about a million free throws to our ZERO.

With 4:20 left, A horrible, horrible, horrible call is made on Maddie for fouling. She was not within 2 feet of the player, and an official totally out of position called it. I cannot understand why that is happening so much, but in the South Carolina-Tennessee game last night the announcers said it is because the game has gotten too fast for the officials in the women's game, and teams that play up-tempo are more susceptible to bad calls.

Then with 2:17 left and us up 70-66, Fallon lowered her shoulder and drove into KK, but the same official called it on KK - and she had fouled out.

Hard to win like that but the subbing to halt our own momentum can be blamed on no one but ourselves.

Syb is right, forget it is Baylor. Come and play your game and your tempo. Move the ball around, inside/out, take the lane when it presents itself but don't be fixated on getting to the rim. Stop and pop those eight footers. Peyton is a master at it and Gioya can be when she plays focused. Don't rely heavily on the three. Take it when its open, but don't force it. Take advantage of Baylor's mistakes, they will make some. Defense, if you can't stop the drive in a man, then play a match up zone, trap on occasion, disrupt Mulky's game plan and make her go ballistic. Concentrate and hit free throws and for pity sakes block out. Texas, West VA, and Tech played them close. We are better than those three, if we don't get rattled, we can win at home. Don't give them an inch, make them take the bad shots and work them. Lastly, play the kids that are ready, and don't sub to be subbing. Ride the horses that got you to this point and kick their butts.

Offense- pound the ball inside.

Defense- keep a minimum of 3 in the paint at all times and make Baylor score from outside. In the previous game Baylor scored 50 points in the paint while we scored 20. Game. Set. Match.

We need to go in with confidence. baylor has played a few close games. We need the mentality of beating them.

Maybe the most important thing? Protect your home court.

OU must not turn the ball over and limit second and third shots! Also do not be intimidated!!!

Control the paint and you win! Our post play is lack luster and more of our success down low is just good positioning. Get our bigs in early foul trouble and force us to go with 4 guards and Nina. Also, be patient on offensive end. I've noticed that you tend to shoot the 3 early in the shot clock when you could have worked the ball around for a much easier shot.
