The story will expire but...
A) Benny was on crutches.
B) Benny won the NBBL MVP.
Other former NBBL MVPs: Daniel Theis (Celtics) & Oscar da Silva (Stanford/Europe)

Crutches? Well that stinks. Hope he'll be ready for the season.

He’s fine.
Torn meniscus a few weeks back.
100% by the time he’s on campus.

Re: OUhoops with Benjamin Schroeder
He's obviously got a great offensive skillset. Athleticism looks great. Showed some toughness and physicality in that reel.
If he can play defense, he's going to be on the floor.

I have said all along that Benny Schroeder is my candidate to play a major role on next year’s team. I like all three of our freshmen, but Benny is the one that stands out in so many ways to me I think he is a can’t miss future star. I never even thought about toughness and physicality. But, you’re right, he has that too.
Looking for a player who can score in a variety of ways on his own? Check. Wanna see a player who will wow the crowd with his athleticism and offensive skills? Check. I think Benny can be that special player we didn’t have last year—one who wants the ball in his hands at crunch time when the game is on the line.
Too much to expect for a freshman some might say? I don’t rule that out entirely. But Benny is not a typical freshman. He’s accustomed to playing with and against older players, many of them pros. He could have stayed in Europe and played on a professional team in Germany or Spain. I’m not the least bit worried about his defense. Defense starts with toughness and athleticism. He’s got that in spades.

Re: OUhoops with Benjamin Schroeder
I don't understand why some are skeptical of Schroeder. Maybe because OU has been burned multiple times by Outside of US prospects/projects...??
He may not be a difference-maker as a frosh, but that guy has off-the-charts athletic ability and looks to have (at least offensive) basketball skills.
Could be a difference-maker for OU over time.

Re: OUhoops with Benjamin Schroeder
If we’re burned this time it’s to the highest order. The guys that came before him did not have articles written about them by NBA draft experts. They were projects coming in (maybe with the exception of Freeman, and even he came in a year early for experience).

The biggest thing is his work ethic. Seems to really get at it in the gym.

Re: OUhoops with Benjamin Schroeder
I don't think anybody on this board isn't excited about the kid. But that doesn't mean he'll "get it" day 1. Even though he has played at a high level overseas, being in a different country and learning what Moser wants/expects, it very well could take him a while. Hopefully he hits the ground running and contributes right off the bat, just saying I won't be surprised if it takes him a bit to adjust.

I agree with you! I said he could be a difference-maker in time several months ago in describing what I saw in Schroeder. Yet, he has not been included in some future lineup projections for next season. Baffling, to say the least!
I’m wrong sometimes. Freeman was one of my misses. But Schroeder is not even listed as a back up in some conversations about next year’s rotation. To me, he could be the gem of our 2022 freshmen class! He may not start, but I think he will contribute in a meaningful way in his first season.

I'll wait until I see our final roster, but I doubt he starts a single game next year.
In an ideal world, he plays well enough to be a backup somewhere (3?). I've seen folks list him as a 4. I don't think he'll play the 4 until possibly later in his career or as part of a small (4 guards/wings) lineup.
He'll have plenty of competition (hopefully, once the roster is finalized) at the 3 spot too.
I think he and the other frosh will play some, mostly b/c Moser can't afford to sit them and have them get mad and leave next offseason. They are the future of OU basketball, so unless they stink, they are all three going to play some this year I think.

I think bringing him along slowly will only help him in the long run. Which I bet is what they plan to do.

I can’t imagine why anyone would list him as a four? IMO, he’s a three, in the size and skills he brings to the floor.
Some posters wanted better athletes next season. Well, there you go! I think all three of our freshmen will prove to be better in a number of areas, especially toughness and athleticism. I see that as a good start!

it is because he is 6'7 221
that is big enough to play the 4 in a 4 or 5 out system ..

Those of us who's basketball ideology was formed in a less positionless time still try to hold more hard and fast rules. Lol! To me, LeBron is still a PF. Bird and magic however were PG's.
