Lot of reaves hate up until pretty recently. I expect his 3pt percentage to go up pretty significantly when he plays pro.

Not sure but it isn’t as deep as the juco 3pt line. As you know, the juco 3 pt line extends an additional 3 feet outside the nba’s.

Re: Possible transfers
Why do I get flashbacks to Capel when I see Indian Hills being mentioned?
FYI, I am not comparing Capel to Moser. I just don't want to see some of the rosters we saw during the Capel Era.

Re: Possible transfers
lol, how many 23 year old, 5th year senior types actually significantly improve their 3 point shooting after moving on to pro ball?
I mean, it may go up a little just due to the fact that some shots have to go in, but I don't see it. Don't see him sticking in the NBA either. He MIGHT get lucky and get to hang on at the end of a bench, or in the G League for a few years, but no way he ever contributes meaningfully to an NBA team.

Unless your name is Demar Derozan (or maybe Ben Simmons), it's never too late to develop a 3-ball. Just ask Jason Kidd. There are so many guys like Lonzo Ball and Julius Randle that developed a 3-ball several years into their NBA career.

Good post. The list is long and distinguished. And those guys you mentioned didn’t shoot over 40% in their first couple years of college like reaves did as more of a spot shooter. Yea I know the line moved back. Range isn’t a problem for him, though.

Re: Possible transfers
He's shown he can shoot. Better off the catch than off the dribble.
He's an elite pick and roll guy, elite finisher, strong ball handler. Great court vision, exceptional free throw shooter, good size, strong rebounder, tough, and size and anticipation means he can defend well enough.
Goran Dragic, Cam Payne, Dejounte Murray ... all good comparisons.

Blake Griffin certainly has done so (though he was not a fifth year senior, his improvement came well after the five-year mark).

Not saying he'll be as successful as these guys, but he's got similar skill set entering the league (and better size).

The vast majority of NBA players are far better shooters than they were in college. There are all kinds of guys at every position who drastically improve their shooting throughout their career.

Re: Possible transfers
To add, FT% is the number one thing scouts look at to see if a person's shooting will translate to the NBA. Austin will be fine.

Re: Possible transfers
In a 10 year study of NBA 2nd round picks, the following was discovered:
26.1% never made the NBA
47.9% played less than 3 years
2.4% became All-Stars or made All-NBA teams
16.7% played at least 3 years
The key number being that 74% of guys like Austin Reaves (college stars, older college players who typically go in the 2nd round) either don't make it, or play less than 3 years, which is exactly what WTSooner said.
Hopefully he does well though.

Thanks guys, I went thru a divorce a few years back so just now really getting on my feet as a full time single father and everything else life throws at you post-divorce. It's good to be back and I'm really happy with the new hire, though I'm very appreciative of Lon for getting us back on solid footing. I appreciate the kind words. BOOMER!!

Even bad NBA shooters are actually really good, for some it just doesn't translate to NBA games for whatever reason. I played with Desmond Mason a couple years after he retired when he was working out at the Chesapeake Energy company employee gym and you woulda thought he was Ray Allen. Granted the 3pt line was collegiate distance.

Sounds like OU is making Soriano a priority.

Watching his highlights he definitely knows how to post up, throw a shoulder and shoot the hook.

Re: Possible transfers
Maybe he surprises, but not going to get my hopes up that Soriano comes in and makes an immediate impact. 10ppg & 9rpg on a 2-12 Fordham team. Also bad FT%, turnover ratio, foul trouble, & not a great shot blocker.

I’d rather have Tape I think. He had better numbers at Columbia.
What year is Soriano?
