Re: Updated +/-
Can you also explain it in simple terms old timers like me can understand?
I want to believe this system of measuring a player’s performance is legit, but it makes no sense to me. Thanks in advance!

It’s just the change on the scoreboard while the player is on the floor.
For example, if a player never rested and played the full 40 minutes, and his team won 70-60, he’d be a +10 for that game.

Re: Updated +/-
kur-ious what kuath's number was 2-3 weeks ago. would be cool to post the updates in this thread instead of updating the original post to see who is rising/falling.

Thanks. I was trying to make it more complicated than it really is.

He was a 0 going into the UT-RGV game. +26 the last 3 games.

I would say it's reductive (and useless).

Re: Updated +/-
Pretty meaningless stat in college. Means more in the NBA where the talent level across a roster and across the league isn't as different as it is in college.

Re: Updated +/-
You're starting to see now why they're having real trouble playing Williams. He's 58 points behind the next guy who receives meaningful minutes. He got the quick hook last night in the first half.

I don’t understand how he’s as bad as he is based on how talented he is.

Re: Updated +/-
Against KU, Hill did exactly what this team needs him to do every night. He was fighting for those boards.

He’s shooting 21% from 3, not a good team defender (bad at pick and roll), and doesn’t fill the stat sheets in other areas (rbs, assists, steals, etc.).

Re: Updated +/-
It is probably better than some think. Some flaws but in basketball the best players do not always make the best team. I have seen players who don't fill the stat sheet but the team always does better when they are in the game.
For example in todays game the tip pass from Hill to Manek with the clock running out was much more meaningful than an assist if he indeed got an assist.
One of the flaws in the number is it doesn't account for the damage to the team effort a player causes. His numbers are bad but he also negatively effects the numbers for the other four players.
On the other hand there are so many intangibles in basketball that the stat has some value.
I vote to keep updating it but keep some history.

I know that, I’m saying based on his talent he should be better at all those things. He looks lost on both ends which causes hesitation which is why his talent isn’t showing. I really hope he figures it out because he could be really good.

Thanks for updating this. If it isn't too much trouble, could you provide a "+/-" for conference games only. It would be interesting to contrast that list with the overall season list.

Re: Updated +/-
If you can't shoot the 3 and you can't play defense as a guard, you can't play. That's Williams problem. Like the overwhelming majority of JUCOs, he's a fringe rotation guy at best.

Re: Updated +/-
In conference play Harmon is as good as Williams is bad.
Thanks for tabulating these. Game-to-game the plus/minus can produce some headscratchers. Overall, it provides a really good look at trends.
