Default A Clue to Recruiting Bigs

This came from an article on Krutwig:

“Coach Moser always talks about Coach [Rick] Majerus being a huge influence on him, and when [Majerus] looked for a big he wanted to find bigs who are basketball players,” Roberts said. “A lot of big kids, tall kids just play basketball because they’re tall, and they’re not basketball junkies, not basketball players and that’s what he loved in Cam. He’s a basketball junkie, he’s a gym rat he just loves to play.”

Considering discussions on this board with frontcourt skills and development, I thought it was an interesting quote.

We've been saying this on here for years. No more Garang or Polla-type projects. Give me an undersized Doolittle in the post any day.

A high school coach once told me that the best centers were kids that weren't always the tallest players when they were younger. He said they started out as guards and learned to handle the ball. When they got a growth spurt and grew into being a center, they kept their ball-handling skills.

Prime example is Anthony Davis, who I believe was only about 6'1 until his Jr or Sr year of high school. Chris Bosh had a similar late growth spurt.

Okay fine. I love Moser now. lol

I do think Moser will focus more on bball players over straight athletes. I'll be very happy about that.
