Default Doo

What a great performance last night - and I am not even considering his offense. He completely shut down their leading scorer, who had 16 in the first half, a quick three to start the second half and then ZERO the rest of the game, after Doo took the challenge of checking him And he was their point guard!

I love it. His postgame comments were great and he actually said he did this on his own - telling the coaches he would shut him down.

Well done! What a great way to demonstrate leadership.

The game overall was disappointing and OU's slow first halves are alarming, but watching Doo have so much promise as a freshman, get suspended for a semester and then take the leadership role on this team is what is fun about watching college kids grown and mature.

Well done Doo!

Doolittle flashed as a freshman and has been a little underwhelming the last 2 years. His athleticism while being a tweener has really benefited him. He is what the game is shifting towards. If he can continue to stretch defenses out with a legit 3 point threat it will help the entire team.

I think Makek has put on too much weight. Maybe he hasnt adjusted to it yet because he gets tired easily and seems a little slow.

Harmon will be a absolute stud.
Reaves and Doolittle are the best players on the team. I love that Reaves isnt trying to be a stereotypical 3 point specialist.

Bench had a bad night.

Excellent post and I'm so glad someone took the time to point out how good he was. He has gotten so much flack from people who seem to overlook how many things he does well. I know there will always be people who complain he is inconsistent if he doesn't score 20+ every game, but he really has been outstanding for about the past 20 games dating to last season. Only guy in the conference averaging 14+ pts and 8+ boards, and is well above that point threshold. I find the rebounding number especially interesting since so many people think that his lack of size kills us. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a guy like Doke at the five so Doo could play and defend the four exclusively, but he does a good job holding his own. As you note, in a game where he shot the lights out and carried us offensively, his defense is easy to overlook. Lon said numerous times last year that he considers Doo the most versatile defender in the league because of his ability to guard multiple positions, and also praised the way he communicates on D. We're lucky to have him and I hope he doesn't end up being one of those guys who people only appreciate after he is gone.

It's nice having him and Reaves as guys who are both capable of carrying the offense when necessary, but we still need other guys to step up. I've been driving the JB fan bus for the past year and still love his game, but he obviously needs to give us more offensively. I hope Harmon gets a confidence boost after making a couple big shots last night.

I've been quite worried that OU has a pretty massive leadership vacuum. But if Doo can insert himself into games like he did last night, not just with his production but with his fire, that will really help..

This is a terrible take.

He was literally voted the most improved player in the Big 12 last year.

I'ts great to see he has learned to play to his strengths. His midrange game is deadly and his 3pt shooting is damn good too. No longer do you see him taking it to the rim only to get blocked by bigger opponents. He should not be playing close to the basket.
I think Vic inside and Doo mid/outside are our best combo.

Thats because his sophmore season was terrible. If you remember he got in trouble.

Fresh: 9.1 PPG
Soph: 2.9 PPG
Junior: 11.3 PPG
Senior: 16.0 PPG

I'd say 2.9 - 11.3 does justify most improved. but from freshmen to junior year there wasnt a huge jump.
Plus he's doing much more than just scoring now. He's probably the best player on the team.

I believe he is, and by a large margin. His +/- last year was very good. He does all the little things. I sure wish he had another year.

I believe him to be a NBA talent. I will be surprised if he is not drafted between 20 and 40. Yes I have been wrong before.

I love Doo and have for years. But I'll be shocked if he is drafted, especially that high.

Ya not an nba guy imo. But still a good college player that is playing well. My only gripe is that i have little faith with him or manek on the FT line in crunch time

I agree on Manek but not Doo. I know he missed one fairly late last night, but for the most part, I feel like he makes a high percentage of his crunch time FTs.

He will have a long, successful pro career in Europe.

Everyone misses more free throws late in the game. Tired legs, more pressure, etc.

I’ll always believe that they should’ve just redshirted him his sophomore year.

You could tell after one or two games that he was too far behind to catch up for the rest of the year.

Not to mention, him being a redshirt junior this year would really help next year.

It's easy to say that now, given that the season didn't end well, but Doolittle was exactly what that team needed. We now know that team was beyond saving, but we would have criticized Lon for years (decades?) had he withheld a great player from teaming up with Trae.

I agree with this. There was no way of knowing he'd struggle that badly after missing the first five weeks. Players come back from injuries and suspensions all the time and usually are able to get back up to speed within a few games. There was no way to predict that he'd never find his groove with three months remaining in the season. And remember, we were highly ranked when he started playing, so we had every reason to make a run at it.
