I thought he already signed with OU? The article suggests otherwise.

Guess I need to pay more attention to dates. lol. I didn’t recall anyone posting it before. If anything, Jalen is a better player now, as evidenced by CoachTalk’s post that he is the “POY in Nevada” this season.

I think Jalen is one heck of a player we haven’t talked much about for some reason. Do a search on his highlight videos and you’ll see what I mean. I would do it myself, but I wouldn’t want to post a link to an old video.

Here is the Press Release:
http://playeroftheyear.gatorade.com/...len-hill/37152

Quote:
CLARK HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-ATHLETE NAMED GATORADEģ NEVADA BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

CHICAGO (March 15, 2019)
ó In its 34th year of honoring the nationís best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company today announced Jalen Hill of Clark High School as its 2018-19 Gatorade Nevada Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Hill is the third Gatorade Nevada Boys Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Clark High School.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Hill as Nevadaís best high school boys basketball player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award to be announced in March, Hill joins an elite alumni association of past state boys basketball award winners, including Karl-Anthony Towns (2012-13 & 2013-14, St. Joseph High School, N.J.), Dwight Howard (2003-04, Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, Ga.), Chris Bosh (2001-02, Lincoln High School, Texas), Paul Pierce (1994-95, Inglewood High School, Calif.), Chauncey Billups (1993-94 & 1994-95, George Washington High School, Colo.) and Jason Kidd (1991-92, St. Joseph Notre Dame High School, Calif.).

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound senior guard and forward led the Chargers to a 25-6 record and the Class 4A state final this past season. Hill averaged 17.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 56.5 percent from the field. The Southwest League Most Valuable Player, he is a First Team All-State selection and a three-time First Team All-League performer.

Hill has served as a youth basketball coach and has volunteered locally providing support for children with cancer. ďJalen Hill might be the best on-ball defender Iíve ever seen,Ē said Paul DeSantis, head coach at Foothill High. ďHeís also an excellent passer, he can finish with both hands and heís a high-percentage 3-point shooter. Heís got an elite-level, old school post-up game that you canít stop and his IQ is off the charts. Heís the real deal.Ē

Hill has maintained a 3.63 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball on scholarship at the University of Oklahoma this fall.

Thanks for posting, Traveler! There’s a lot to like about this future Sooner:

—Gatorade Nevada Player of the Year
—6’ 7” guard who led his team to a 25-6 season and the Class 4-A State Final
—Averaged 17.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals, while shooting 56.5 % from the field.
—Coach says he’s a “high percentage 3 point shooter” (last time I checked it was 46%)
—League MVP and First Team All State Selection.
—Coach says he’s an excellent passer and he can finish with both hands.
—Coach says “He’s got an elite-level, old school post-up game that you can’t stop and his IQ is off the charts. He’s the real deal.”
—Coach says this about his defense: “Jalen Hill might be the best on-ball defender I’ve ever seen.”
—Active in the community as a volunteer providing support for children with cancer.
—Excellent student with a 3.63 GPA

Like I said earlier, I think OU got a steal with this young man!

Maybe manek could reflect on his attitude while sitting on the bench. Guards and wing look good but the post is a glaring weakness.

247Sports currently has the OU 2019 recruiting class ranked #16 ...
https://247sports.com/college/oklaho...tball/Commits/

and, 3rd in the Big-12 ...
https://247sports.com/Season/2019-Ba...ference=Big-12

Their "composite ranking" has Jalen Hill as a 3-Star player ranked #145 in the country. That is good, but I am thinking that he could be better than that.

IMHO, the Sooners need at least three of the newcomers to be solid contributors next season. On paper, OU will have less experience and more talent compared to 2018-19. To me, it appears the talent upgrade will be significant.

If Alondes Williams is as good as some articles have said, and a few posters also, then our recruiting class is better than 16.

I honestly canít understand how anyone could not be completely satisfied out of Manekís production through 2 years. The guy was not exactly a blue chip top 100 guy, coming out of small OK HS. He has been one of our top 3-4 players over the past 2 years. How can you expect more?

It really is odd. One of the most productive players through two years in OU history yet all people want to focus on is the negative. I get annoyed when he doesn't get back defensively after he gets upset about a call or a miss, but to read some of the comments, you'd think the guy scores two points a game and contributes nothing to our team.

He's the current whipping boy. Our fanbase always has one in hoops, football, etc....
