At the Duke game I saw Jo'Nah sitting directly behind Chelsea. Chelsea was there with her mom and dad...Jo'nah was there with her mom and brother and mom did a lot of cheering for OU.

Great to hear! I think LaNeisha is going to be a surprise to us all. I watched the Northeast state title game on TV last year and I thought LaNeisha was significantly better than T'Ona. T'Ona has surprised me with her abilities so far (except scoring). I don't see where LaNeisha will be starting (but that's for her to prove) but she will provide excellent depth at guard position (probably 1 or 2). Glad she's a Sooner!

LaNeisha must not have much help this year. They went 0-3 in the Harrah Tourney last week.

OU originally was recruiting LaNeisha.
Noticed Ton'a in the process.

On the 12th the Prairie School defeated Whitefish Bay Dominican 48-32. Ortiz scored 23 points, had 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 assists. On defense she helped stop the Dominican star player to half her normal output.

If I remember the games I saw on the net that Northeast played last year, Williams has a good all-around game. And hit some outside shots.

You all, Williams real Name is Lanesia not Laneshia.

Penzo's team wins....I watched for about a quarter and while I watched she scored 5 points on 2-3 shooting and 1-2 from the line. She was the best athlete on the court and because of that got several rebounds/loose balls. But she did not dominate the ball on offense as much as I would have expected. Both shots she made were on drives into the paint where she stopped and hit an 8-10 foot shot...showing good athleticism.

Montverde 59, Leesburg 53

Buzz: Gileyso Penzo had 13 points for Montverde (12-1). Adrienne Jackson had 23 points and 4 steals for Leesburg (8-4).

The report on Penzo is, she is a very smooth player on the court but not the fastest.

After a long layoff over the holidays Gabbi Ortiz led her team to a blowout win:

There was no sign of rustiness for The Prairie School girls basketball team after being idle for 15 days. There was just plenty of domination.

The Lady Hawks defeated Kenosha St. Joseph and star freshman center Sidney Cooks 59-29 in a Metro Classic Conference showdown between undefeated teams Friday night in the Johnson Athletic Center. Prairie (2-0 MCC), which improved to 8-0 for the first time since the 2002-03 season, took over sole possession of first place in the conference after St. Catherine’s lost to Whitefish Bay Dominican 58-50 Friday night.

“For not playing since Dec. 17, I couldn’t be more pleased with our performance,” Prairie coach Melody Owsley said.

All-State guard Gabbi Ortiz led the way with 23 points, nine assists, eight steals and seven rebounds. But Owsley said it was a team effort against St. Joseph (8-1, 3-1 MCC).

The 6-foot-4 Cooks, who is already drawing national recruiting attention, picked up her third foul early in the second quarter and was held scoreless. Cooks, who averages 13 points per game, was guarded most of the way by Kate Andreucci, who had 11 points and five rebounds.

“We knew they were going to try and lob it to her,” Owsley said of Cooks. “But we played great team defense because we got a number of steals when they lobbed it to her.”

St. Joseph’s other leading scorer, Jalah Harris, was held to four points — eight fewer than her average. Guarded by Rachel Kammerzelt and Becky Kann, Harris did not score in the second half.

Megan Wolf scored 10 points for Prairie while Sammie Woodward added nine.
