Default Thanks, Ada!

I had a dream last night in which it became apparent that folks on this board had come under the false impression that I had passed away.

I managed to read only a line or two of a fairly lengthy online eulogy posted by Ada before I woke up (I think it's time someone invented a dream DVR), but he was very kind and generous in his remembrance (at least he started out that way -- I'll never know whether he began by focusing on my positive traits before moving on to the things about me that bugged the heck out of him), and I woke up long before I came across any "good riddance" posts from other posters, so you're all off the hook.

So I just wanted to say, thanks, Ada, for the kind words (even if they were ghost-written by my subconscious).

Sky, If your dream had been real, you can be sure my eulogy would have ended with the best possible remembrance of a friendship I have treasured for a very long time!

It began on the Insider board (in 2001 I believe) and continued when this board was launched in late 2008. You were among the first OUI posters I contacted with an invitation to become a member here.

We donít always agree. But that has neverónor will itódo anything to change the way I feel about you personally. You have been a great friend for nearly two decades. Iím the one who should be saying, Thank you!

Stay safe, my friend! NYC has been a dangerous place lately. Itís good to know youíre okay!

A.) I am glad you aren't dead.

B.) That is an interesting thought... so many of us have been chatting on these forums for a long time. As Ada mentioned, about 20 years in some cases. When someone passes away we would likely have no idea. We would think constant negativity by posters drove them away from the board or something, and would likely never found out they had died.

Maybe I should leave special instructions for my wife to get on here and let someone know I died?

Thatís not a bad idea, ABD!

MNSooner is a good example. He was an admin on this board for several years. He simply disappeared from the board without a word and never came back. I know that because his profile shows he hasnít even logged into the board in well over two years.

I PMd him and also sent a message to his email address and never got a response. I donít know him personally, so I donít have a telephone number or a contact to make sure heís okay. And, to be honest, I canít help but wonder if heís dead?

If anyone out there knows MNSooner, please respond to this post or send me a PM.

Does long term lurking count. I've been around since the OUI days as well. I just have never felt the need to post much. I do read everything posted, because usually both sides of the arguments on here are well thought out. This is probably the longest post I've ever made on here and it's about me not posting lol. I love this community.

Jaberwalky, if we conducted a poll on the best usernames, you would be on my list.

Long term lurking (you joined the board in November, 2008, a month after the site was launched) definitely counts. Short posts matter too. No one reads a post if itís too long, a lesson I should remind myself of more often.

Now that you have broken the ďlong term lurker ice,Ē you need to post more!

That may explain some of the head-scratch-worthy responses I've received to my more long-winded diatribes.
