Default 2019 target Kevin McCullar to enroll early

So McCullar will enroll in the Spring of 2019, meaning the final school he chooses will need to keep 1 scholarship open for 2018/19 so that he can redshirt that year. OU is one of the top 9 schools. He plans to trim it to 5 this month, and take visits this summer.

Seems like if he doesn't choose soon OU will probably be out. Who all has an immediate offer? Reeves, McCullar, Kennedy, & it feels like 1 more.

I'd rather wait it out if we have a realistic shot.

I honestly have a problem with this... What about his HS teammates...? I get getting ready for college and all but this is unique, to say the least.

Do we know for sure that when he enrolls, he's going to red shirt during the spring semester? What if his plan is to play during the spring? If that's the case, the team loses about a third of a season from him (though that's the least important third of the season) and he's going to struggle adjusting to the college game. Though DeSousa eventually came around to playing some good ball for KU this season, he really only played a few decent games.

I guess we have to take him at his word. He's quoted in the article from the OP that he will redshirt the spring semester.

If McCullar says that's what he wants to do and makes it a condition of enrolling at the university, that's what will happen. If he says I won't come if I have to redshirt, the team won't redshirt him.

I did not read the article but apparently it says that that's his plan so presumably he will have worked that out with the coaching staff before he shows up on campus.

The article says all 9 schools have agreed to him redshirting. Heís basically redshirting his senior year of HS and using it to become acclimated to D1 practices and school. Would come in with Harmon et al. He would just have a semester of school behind him when the others arrive in the summer of 2019.

It bothers me a little bit that he wonít have to sign a LOI, so nothing binds him until he attends his first day of class in 2019. On the other hand, I donít have any idea if OU could get his commitment. Weíre just 1 of 9 schools heís interested in. Thatís just an 11% chance. I guess he will take a bunch of visits this summer.

Iím guessing they would take Reaves over McCullar instead of gambling on those odds.

If it's 11%, I'd definitely take Reaves if he wants OU.

The great thing with this is its the 13th ship. If you find the right guy to be starter worthy for the 19/20 season then use it, otherwise have it open for fall signings. There might be a juco to pursue early if Lon wants a more seasoned guard for 19/20.

So are we now out on McCullar since we just gave out our 13th Scholarship?

Logistics. Sometimes things can be worked out on paper.

OU didn’t make the final cut for McCullar. Evidently signing Reaves caused him to eliminate the Sooners. No scholarship available for a mid-year enrollment.

Did he commit to Texas Tech? 247Sportís Crystal Ball has him a virtual lock at 100% to the Red Raiders.

No, he plans to make visits this summer. His HS coach seems to have a lot of influence and is a Texas Tech grad. He wants to transition to a PG and that doesnít work with Harmon coming in.

I bet Tech eventually gets him.

Figured with Reaves committing that we were out on him. Sure enough, we are out.

Final 5 for McCullar. KSU, Texas Tech, Louisville, Houston, and Virginia Tech
