Cancer sucks. He was maybe the best basketball player in the 90s.

Re: Ryan Minor has entered hospice care.
94/95 was so much fun watching Ryan play both basketball and baseball. Him winning Big 8 player of the year in basketball and watching in person the 94 baseball team win the national title. As its been said cancer sucks. Thoughts are with the Minor family and their friends.

Re: Ryan Minor has entered hospice care.
Literally the reason I am an OU fan... first basketball game I ever watched on TV as a kid was OU vs Kansas and Ryan Minor was my instant #1 player.

Echo everyone's thoughts. I was Ryan Minor in the driveway and on the diamond. First OU athlete that I loved. Tough stuff. Prayers to family/friends.

Re: Ryan Minor has entered hospice care.
My heartfelt prayers go out to Ryan and his family as well. I always felt bad for him because he made the decision after the '95 season to return to OU for his senior season as opposed to becoming an instant millionaire by entering the NBA Draft. He was projected to go in the middle of Round 1 - which came with a guaranteed 3-year contract. The next year, he went in Round 2, and wound up playing baseball.

One of my most treasured Sooner memories. The GT team had two future All-Stars as well as Jay Payton, who played in the Bigs for a decade. Crushing them still brings a smile to my face.

Re: Ryan Minor has entered hospice care.
A special Ryan Minor memory for me. My oldest son was born in December of 1995 and his middle name is actually Ryan after Ryan Minor. In February of 1996 I called the basketball office and asked if I could bring my son to meet Ryan and get a picture with him. (I know, new dad, the stupid things we do in the name of our kids!!! In any case, it turned out the scheduled day was after a really tough loss to OSU and an upcoming game with #1 Kansas. Kelvin still kept the appointment and we had a great time getting pics with him and Ryan and Ryan was as nervous as you might expect a college kid to be holding a new born kid. But he couldn't have been more gracious and humble and I've always appreciated him for that. I told him we were going to get Kansas and guess what, we did!!
A great memory of a fantastic athlete, Sooner and overall great man from a great family. God bless you Ryan Minor and your family as well!

I would try alternative medicine. Nothing to lose if you are dying. How Dr Sebis cured cancer.

Same here. As a 7 year old I was a diehard OU hoops fan long before I'd eventually get into OU football, and Ryan was a big part of that.

Re: Ryan Minor has entered hospice care.
I remember watching him and his brother in the Class B state championship game as freshmen for Hammon HS. Long time ago. Great athlete.
So sad to see. Cancer indeed sucks.

Re: Ryan Minor has entered hospice care.
Sad to hear this. I have fond memories of watching with my dad him lead OU to upset Kansas in basketball. I can still remember him with the t-shirt under the jersey. Such a smooth player, could get to the hoop whenever we needed a layup to match a score.
