Default If packed arenas a thing of the past...

If so, shouldnít that help OU? All of a sudden, OUís half filled arena would be on par with every other arena. And OU fans like me wonít be able to use LNC as a crutch for not landing top 25 players.

Thoughts?

People incessantly rag on Lloyd Noble for the lack of fans. Yet, 98% of every other college basketball game I watch on TV it's the exact same. So, yes, you can throw that crutch in the garage..

OU's problem is more about atmosphere than butts in the seats... We have gone over it 1,000 times, but there are arenas where 6,000 fans can rock the building. LNC is not one of them. It's a crap arena for basketball.

If you polled all the other teams in the league, I am fairly confident they would rank the LNC as the worst arena in the league.

KC Star actually does this each year. LNC has never finished last but is always near the bottom. And the other schools near the bottom donít have nearly as good a program.

We may have gone over it 1000 times but some of you miss the mark every time. It is not the arena. It is not the "atmosphere". It is the fans. We have fans that for whatever unknown reason, rarely make noise. I have been in Lloyd Noble with 3000 fans and I've been there when it was full. If the fans, regardless of numbers, sit in silence, the "atmosphere" is terrible. If the fans decide to yell and scream, the "atmosphere" is fine. Even when there are only 3000 in attendance. We have no organized chants other than Boomer/Sooner. I've been to one game in Stillwater and their "atmosphere" blows ours away because their fans actually take pride in making noise and they are constantly doing organized chants/cheers. They had a ton of students behind each goal who kept the "atmosphere" loud and lively.
Lloyd Noble would be better for viewing the game if it were not a bowl. But the lack of noise/"atmosphere" has nothing to do with the building.

Similarly, Gaylord Stadium "atmosphere" is terrible when 85,000 fans sit there in silence. OTOH, when they decide to make noise and jump up and down like the Tech game a few years ago, the "atmosphere" is as good as anywhere in the country.
