Yes, great win!

Just saw the interview with Rayford Young. When will he accept that his son is at OU and loves it? It seems like he always has to say or hint that he wanted Trae to go somewhere else or some place better. We get it Rayford, move on dude!

Pretty sure Rayford wanted his son to go to Kentucky but Trae wanted to wait and see who they signed first. Great, and I mean, GREAT decision by Trae. He would not have been able to showcase his skills at uk or ku like he is with Ou.

awfully silly of trae's dad. trae is getting all the pub and accolades he could ever get right here. it's often hard for dads to acknowledge that their son's dreams may not correspond to their own.

It was at halftime, and it was not really that big of a deal. The interviewer commented something about Trae being able to play college ball in his hometown, and his dad said "I had my own ideas about where he should go, but Trae stepped up to the plate and decided to stay home and we're really proud of him."

I agree. Especially when you compare his interview with the comments LaVar Ball makes.

If my son was hands down player of the year right now in NCAA , leading a top 10 team in the country and because of Lons freedom vaulted himself into a lotto pick .......I would never bring up the schools he didn’t go to ever again .
If Dad had his choice he’s probaly still a freshman star but much smaller numbers and a two year player .
Kid makes his choice and now his parents can quit their jobs in about 8 months because of a freshman Naismith winner and one and done lotto pick . Not to mention us a chance to lead his team to a final 4

Doubtful either of his parents want to retire sit on their hands and just spend Trae's money. Most people have more of a purpose in life. Now some young dude that has lived off of the parents all their life might see being a bum for like as a ideal goal.

agree....BUT he did say it. Interviewer said something about going anywhere coast to coast but stayed in his hometown...like you said, pops said he had his idea or something like that.

I guess with Trae's success he could have just said we are very proud of him and he made a great decision...but again, that's my take.

Trae's parents will probably have the option of doing what ever they would like to do, which is a very free-ing feeling. Maybe they'll follow Trae during the entire NBA season, maybe they'll stay at home. I would never label a Mom and Dad as bums leaching off a child's accomplishments. (unless they are parents leaching off a child's accomplishments)

pffft ... I would buy a small piece of land. just a few acres. drop 3 shipping containers on them. do the finishing work and make them into a home. then solar panels, a water well, and I'm living off the grid with no bills except food. then use the money to help people.

I am not sure what your saying but Rayford Young was all class. The announcers said he has always been all class and they have known him for decades because Rayford was one of the best players in the Big XII He played in the NBA a bit and in Europe.

If you don't recall Rayford at Tech, the dude was a scorer. He probably pushed averaging 20 a game.

You forgot to add "and turn a shipping container into a laboratory where I would discover a cure for the common cold"

Really good game. Conference is going to be brutal this year. Will be hard to win on anyone's court. Like the way we came back after being 6 down late. Far cry from last year when we lost almost every close game. Trae is the difference. He does a great job of taking over the game.

This could be a final four team. Several things need to happen. Some hard, some easy.

One of the easy ones is that Trae needs to fine tune his inside game. He has had some difficulty with that in conference play. Result has been too many turnovers and quite a few blocked shots. With experience I think he will do a better job of deciding when he needs to dump to someone else, go on to the hoop and pull up for his floater. That is about all he needs to be a really complete player.

We must improve our middle defense. TCU got a big bundle of layups off us in addition to the baskets by the center. They doubled us on points in the paint.

Particularly painful were the second chance treys off the offensive rebounds. Also we seem to have a lot of rebounds taken away that we appear to be in position to get. I was suprised that we out rebounded TCU by one because it seemed that we lost a ton of rebounds that I thought we were getting.

And we have to finish better at the rim. Getting too many shots blocked. Don't know why because he have quite a few good finishers. But for now Trae and others are losing a lot of assists on passes to the rim that we should finish and don't.

Having said all that it was a good win against a very good team. Dixon has done a good job of putting the team together. They only have one road win against a rated team in their history. Think that will change this year. Glad we are finished with them in the regular season.

I really only need 2 but thought a third would be a good spot for my bikes.

I read (well, heard) his remarks quite differently than you did. To me it came off much more along that lines of yes, he'd had ideas about where Trae should go, but Trae had had his own ideas and they have panned out very well. He did say how proud he was of Trae and of the team. I thought his remarks were a gentle poke at himself for thinking he knew best.

I'll play devil's advocate ... what if he's jealous of Trae?

I mean, here he is shaping and crafting Trae into his perfect mold of a scoring point guard. All the culmination of his experience and knowledge. Pouring himself into it and as a result Trae gains this notoriety and stardom that Rayford never experienced, but always desired. He's a little jealous as he's just "the dad" now. It's not quite the same feeling as he'd envisioned - this success. He's just kind of on the back burner now. Where are HIS accolades? HIS high fives?? Oh, he's bitter. It's eating at him. If he'd just gone to KU or UK he could still get to the NBA. But now he's a superstar. And Rayford is merely a falling one.

That sounds more like a description of Lavar Ball than Rayford Young.

From what I read, he had his opinions on what he thought Trae should do and he let him know. Like most parents, he wanted more for his son that he had.
He thought one of the blue-blood basketball schools was the best way for him to get that. Then, unlike some parents, he stepped back and let Trae make his own decision. That sounds like a parent doing his job, to me.

Meanwhile, it was great to see Manek get back on track tonight. His first half was especially stellar.
