Default All things Blake Griffin thread Rookie Year edition

Some highlights of articles mentioning Blake encase anyone wishes to keep up with Blake.
(Blake Griffin updates will be posted in this thread)

Griffin in perfect health for 2nd rookie year

Quote:
"I guess I'm still considered a rookie, but last year was very valuable," Griffin said Monday before the club officially began training camp. "I don't think the guys realize I'm still a rookie. They haven't made me do any of the rookie hazing yet. If we could not tell them, that would be great."

"You don't understand what it was like for him sitting out," said Kaman, who has been working out in Playa Vista nearly nonstop since July 17. "This guy's work ethic the only other guy who works like that is Elton Brand. They had to tell (Griffin) to slow it down, or he would have run himself into the ground.

I read an article, (cant find now) that said the clippers wanted to get in on the Melo trade, but they refused to include Blake in any deal...

I think that says a lot about the clippers hopes for blake in the near future.

just seeing or thinking about him out there in the middle of LaLa land makes me smile. First because I can only imagine what an exciting time he must be having and second because NO ONE has ever deserved it more than Blake.

You just hope that everyone else sees what an amazing young man he is and hope that the NBA just unfolds for him (except when he's forced to play the Thunder).

There was a time that I wouldn't have said anything here....but I have gotten to where I really like these kids playing for the Thunder. You meet them out in the community and they're a rather humble bunch .... see them at their game and they're all about teamwork (To be such a scorer KD is not selfish).

The Thunder is the goods.

Question to anyone who saw the game live (not on highlights):

Did he look explosive and quick? If so, was he winded? I'm assuming it's going to take some time to get back to the naturally-gifted, physical beast he was when he drove out of Norman.

With that said, numbers like that (even in the preseason) would be hard to come by if he isn't that same explosive player, unless he's really upped the offensive skills ante. Probably the most telling stat of all was his offensive rebounding. He had 5 in 23 minutes last night.

On a side note, the other big-name rook - Aminu - put up good numbers as well. I wonder if there is better rookie tandem in the league than those two (remember, technically Blake's a rookie this season). I'm just sayin'

Default Blake with 23, 9 vs Warriors

If he could hit free throws he could be looking at 20 points.
Stat line
15 points (6-9 FG, 3-10 line), 8 rebounds, 4 assists 2 turnovers in 15 minutes

Also has a good slam that can be seen here

Clippers get rocked, Blake doesnt play any in the 4th.
Blake Griffin - 23 pts, 9 rbs, 4 assists in 24 minutes. 3-10 free throw shooting.

Blake has two dunks on the highlight page right now on NBA.com

I think the best thing for Blake is for the Clips to struggle again, get rid of Bdiddy, and build around Blake, Gordon, and Aminu.

Yep, they need to get rid of Baron Davis.

I didn't recall Blake being brick city from the line at OU so I went back to check his stats ... 59%. Did his poor free throw shooting cost us?

I see that Blake's shooting some "Take that!" glares at opponents after his slams. Not sure what I think about that (not that he cares what I think, of course). I don't watch the NBA enough to have a good grasp on the current culture of that league, so maybe this is just how it's done, but I'll admit that I prefer the more modest, quiet-assassin approach.

That's how he played when he was a Sooner. Don't know if there's any reason to expect his style to change now that he's in the NBA.

You're right, though this seems more overt to me.

Maybe it's just that I haven't seen him play in a while.

I thought he did it more as a freshman than as a sophomore. Perhaps he'll do it a little bit less as be becomes more sure of himself in the NBA.

Default Blake Griffin is the best rookie since Lebron

Per Bill Simmons.
Here are some pro Griffin tweets
Quote:
Love that people are doubting my Blake Griffin pimping. Wait until you see him. Best rookie since LeBron. Even Durant wasn't this far along.
Quote:
BTW: I thought Griffin was going to be a very good pro. I never expected... this. He's blossomed into a beast. I'm telling you. Just wait.

Here is an article with a lot of good Blake pub as well.

Quote:
Call me a sucker, call me a fool. I don't care. Griffin cannot be hyped enough. He's already one of the best five power forwards in the league. (I have him behind Dirk, Bosh, Gasol and tied with an aging Duncan.) He would have been the third-best player on Team USA in August had they included him. He's already (A) the best finisher of any big guy in the league, (B) the second-best rebounder in the league behind Dwight Howard, and (C) someone who flies around so recklessly that you constantly worry he might break his leg, his back, his neck … there's just nobody else like him right now. You can't keep your eyes off him.

Thanks for the Blake updates Sam! I try to watch as much as I can on NBATV, but he plays so late out there in LA, that I haven't seen nearly enough. Have watched the box scores, highlights, and probably the equivalent of one entire game of actual preseason game play. He looks very good. I keep going back to what you wrote the other day - hall of fame.

I can definitely see that. He's further along than Karl Malone was. Further than Dirk was; and as we all know, his work ethic is not going to be an issue. I'm so excited to see him put that franchise on his shoulders and carry it to somewhere north of where it's ever been, that I can hardly wait for the regular season to begin so we can get a taste.

He's Charles Barkley straight out of Auburn with an added 5 inches of length. Wow!
