Default current game unwatchable

The college game had become nothing more than a wrestling match and then a few years ago, we put in the semi circle to protect players going to the rim and supposedly put an end to defenders using hands and arms to prevent movement by offensive players.

These things greatly helped the game and made it more fun to watch. It returned the game to its roots.

Now the rules allow felonious assault on anyone daring to dribble to the rim or score at the rim, and we have gotten back to allowing holding all over the court.

Now instead of game sin the high 70s and 80s, we are lucky if any team scores 30 points in a half.

Some like this brand of basketball, I have it. I can barely watch college basketball anymore unless OU is involved. I wonder what the TV ratings are on this issue. I may be in a small minority.

I'll join you in that minority. I had extremely high hopes for some of the "rule changes" a few years back. They've all but abandoned the freedom of movement stuff.

Honestly, I wish the NCAA would move to something more akin to the FIBA rules. In particular, I think it would help to widen the lane and enforce something like a defensive 3 seconds.

I prefer it the way it is. I have zero desire to watch players move uninterrupted up and down the floor, and games played in the 80's and 90's. I can watch the NBA or play video games if I want to see that.

Players are WAY more athletic today than they were years ago. If the defense isn't allowed to "body up" a bit, they have no shot. You mentioned holding, I really don't see blatant holding being an issue. But yeah, if the offensive player can initiate some contact and it's not a foul, the defense better be allowed to do the same.

NBA players play far better defense than college players, so to the extent you are suggesting they don't try, that's ridiculous. The difference between college and NBA is the offensive skills of NBA players.

I don't have a big problem with today's college game. There are plenty of great offensive teams every year, and there are also plenty of great defensive teams, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. Some of the great defensive teams (Virginia and Michigan most prominently) play incredible defense and very rarely foul. It isn't like UVA shuts down teams by being physical and bumping people all over the floor. They are amazingly disciplined, play incredibly hard, and work together as a five-man unit to shut down their opponent.

I do think, as I have said numerous times, that some rules should be changed to reward good offense. I specifically despise the number of charge calls in the college game. You see more charges in a typical college game than you see in a week in the NBA. The NBA has it right.

What irritates me is sometimes they call traveling and other times they let them walk all over the place.

Also, the hand check needs to be enforced. Grabbing arms to prevent your man from blowing by you is a foul.

I really hate it when the offensive player is out of control and runs into the defensive player at the rim and gets a foul called. When the offensive player initiates the contact, it shouldn’t be a foul on the defender unless he reaches or hacks. Going straight up and getting run into should not be a foul, yet it is 90% of the time.

They need to be consistent. That’s my biggest complaint.

There are a lot of bad coaches in college basketball. That shouldn't be surprising. Even the NBA can't find 30 good coaches, so how do we expect 330 college teams to do the same?

When you watch a team with a great x's and o's coach, the product shows: Tony Bennett, Jay Wright, Chris Beard, and John Beilein probably being the 4 best at this point.

That is the reason the NBA regular season is a joke. No one plays any Defense during the regular season. It is the only professional league where guys can loaf during the regular season. And they want astronomical money to see this trash in the regular season. No thank you. That is why I will never buy tickets to another regular season NBA game. I prefer the college game with the defensive play. Much more strategy and fun to watch for my brain. I don't like easy scoring, it's too predictable. Russell Westbrook would have had a much harder time racking up triple doubles in the 80s where guys had to work harder in all aspects as players weren't playing half-ass.

I don't know how you watch the NBA. Especially the Thunder with cry baby Russ. I hate when he missed his profanity and running back on defense. How many T's has he and their coach got this year. The four games last Saturday and Sunday was great basketball and much better than the National Babies Association.

Lol. NBA defenses are so much better than college defenses that it's not even funny. And ask Kelvin about how much more strategy there is in the pro game than college. It's just ridiculous that people can't appreciate both levels for what makes them great.

Hope you took time to watch that awful final 4 this year.
