Default OU vs Indiana State from Myrtle Beach 4pm CST on ESPN2

We're playing Indiana State. They're 3-1 and rated #147 by KenPom. They were taken to the wire in their opener by Green Bay (#308), lost by 25 to Purdue, beat Hanover (don't ask me--I have no idea) and Old Dominion (#162), each by 41 points.

We've played the Sycamores four times, winning the first two games (1973 and 1974) and losing the last two (1979 and most recently a two-point OT loss in the first round of the 2001 NCAA tourney). Hopefully, ISU has no one of Larry Bird's caliber on this year's squad.

The Sycamores have a guard named Julian Larry and Jr wing Cameron Henry went to Bird HS.

In all seriousness, I watched a couple of minutes of their game tonight. They're sneaky good. Their top two scorers are Henry (15 ppg) and a 6'3 ish guard named Cooper Neese (16.8). Neese averages 7.25 threes attempted per game (through 4 games).

Their 3rd leading scorer is a 6'0 guard that some on here probably remember out of Putnam City North (OK) - Fr Micah Thomas (12.7)

One nice advantage going into this game is Moser's familiarity with Indiana State
having played them in the MVC for years while at Loyola. Should be another good test for this team as it continues to gel together. A game OU should win if it plays well enough across the board

12 of their 29 baskets were three pointers yesterday. And 20 assists on 29 baskets. Going to have to defend better than we did yesterday on the perimeter.

I thought defending on the perimeter was going to be the most reliable thing on this team too......

I really liked Moser's late game subs yesterday - Nolan for Chag, Cortes for Gibson - trying to get better FT shooters (Nolan) and bigger defenders (Cortes) on the floor.

I'm not sure about putting Cortes in the game for defensive purposes. He didn't look great on defense to me.

Agreed. It was for ball-handling/receiving purposes. They were LONG at the guard positions, and Gibson had trouble getting free to receive the inbounds.

should be an interesting game in the other semi final today ..

Utah State is led by their front court .. that combine to average over 40 a game vs NMST which is led by their guards ..

I thought the defense was better than the results yesterday. Not perfect, but those guys hit a bunch of really, really tough shots.

Agree with that. We were a little slow at times on D but it wasn’t terrible. Too many sloppy passes on O. All of that is easily fixable and not unusual for a Nov holiday tournament.

For a team that was essentially thrown together, I am happy thus far. Keep getting minutes for the young guys and we'll see Moser tighten up the rotation by B12. I think getting Rick time is essential, I think T Groves may have several more foul trouble games in the future. Although some of the calls last game were 50/50 against him.

I was disappointed in the defensive awareness late. In a couple situations where it was obvious they would look for a 3, we made it easy on them. Once we got sucked in on a drive and kick, which shouldn’t happen. And it was two veterans who made the mistake. The other time was at least partially attributed to one of our guys losing his footing for a second, so that one is slightly more understandable.

Agreed. The announcers even said he was straight up on one of those calls.

Tanner is a big guy who is not what I would call nimble or graceful. He seems to draw more whistles than he deserves.

Pretty bad defense to start. Gotta clean it up on that end.

Good finish to that half. Still lots to clean up on both ends but that’s why they play these kind of games.
