Need a 3
You need a 3 at the buzzer to win an NCAA tourney game. You can pick any former Sooner in their prime to take said 3.
Who you picking? (abd’s answer has to be a former JUCO Sooner…)

Re: Need a 3
Probably Austin "big balls" Johnson.... He had that reputation.
Otherwise, Mike Neal..... Mike Neal was an amazing 3pt shooter. One of the best to wear the uniform.

Re: Need a 3
Great question and thread. Senior year Buddy wins in a landslide IMHO. Hollis and Quannas are high on the list. Q seemed to make them when we really needed them. Some of the other names mentioned would also be great options, but many of them weren’t necessarily athletic enough to get off a clean shot when the opposing defense was focusing on them.

Tim McAlester. Hit a game winner at Syracuse in 84 (don't remember if it would have been a 3 had it existed at the time) and at home in 87 against NC State.
David Little would be another contender.

Great call. Too bad he didn’t have the line for his entire career. A guy who absolutely doesn’t belong in this conversation but who was fun to watch was Calvin Curry. He took deep threes before that was a thing. Some national announcers were not fans of his shot selection.

Neither was I...though the story about Curry raising his hand and answering "my jump shot" to Kelvin Sampson's question "What's the strength of our team?" still makes me laugh.

Tmac was a good dude also. I had a couple of classes with him, and he was very laid back.

Re: Need a 3
1. Senior Year Buddy
2. Kelly Newton
3. Tim Heskett
4. Dave Sieger
5. Hollis Price
6. Nate Erdmann
7. Brent Price
8. Trae Young
Bonus Pick- TMac. Would be higher but only played one year with the 3 PT line.
I ranked my picks based on volume, percentage, and clutch. It is one reason why I have Trae behind the others as he was not an efficient 3 pt shooter.

Tim McCallister had a great game at Syracuse, but didn't hit a game-winner. I was at the game, so remember it quite vividly. I believe the final score was 98-91. T-Mac had 26, and Wayman led the way with 33. Every time Syracuse made a run, though, T-Mac hit an outside jump shot to settle the crowd. He would be one of the top-5 3-point shooters had this existed throughout his four years.
Another thing about T-Mac. He was no worse than the 2nd best outside shooter as a Sooner freshman in the last half-century. He just didn't have the sustained improvement as did Buddy Hield or Hollis Price.
Here are the 5 best pure shooters from my point-of-view:
1) Buddy Hield
2) Hollis Price
3) Brent Price
4) Tim McCallister
5) Trae Young
It is weird have Trae Young at #5 considering he has ridiculous range and may already the 2nd best NBA Sooner of all time despite only four seasons as a pro. However, he's more streaky than the four guys listed ahead of him.
Also, I'm looking at this as "Who would win a 3-point contest" if they were all in their prime.

I do think some players might not win a 3 point contest yet they have a knack for hitting clutch 3-pointers.
