I think he'll play at least 30 mins per game. He played 29 last season and I can't imagine that won't increase. If it doesn't, it must be a sign that we're a lot better!

I agree that Doo was most effective at the 5 last year but one crazy thing I noticed yesterday was when Kur went to the other team Doo slid to the 4 on offense and Manek to the 5. That makes zero sense to me to keep Manek in the post and Doo on the perimeter.

It’s almost like Doo has been promised he will not be a 5 this year.

He’ll be guarded by 4s & he’ll guard 3s if he’s on the perimeter. He better learn how to shoot the 3 if he doesn’t have 5s guarding him.

You may be closer to what Doo was promised than you realize. Lon seems to think nearly every big on our roster needs to move out to the perimeter at some point of their career.

Here’s a quote he made about Victor Iwuakor:

Quote:
“Victor is just a big-time athlete," OU coach Lon Kruger said in a release. "Great enthusiasm for playing and for being a Sooner. He's played inside most of his life, but we'll move him out on the floor and make progress every year. His biggest asset is the ability to block shots. He changes shots on the defensive end and is a great rebounder as well.”
This is what Lon had to say about Corbin Merritt:

Quote:
"He's long and lengthy, has played inside for the most of his career but we'll move him out on the floor as well," OU coach Lon Kruger said in a release. "He can shoot the perimeter jumper, can score inside. He has a rangy wingspan and is a shot blocker and rebounder as well.”
He had similar things to say about Khadeem Lattin. If you’ll recall, Khadeem was said to be taking shots from behind the arc in practice. I think it was during his sophomore season. He finally developed a decent mid range shot from fifteen and in, but he was never a stretch four or five.

Still, I have no doubt that Lon plans to give Victor and Corbin a chance on the perimeter at some future date. Lon doesn’t make promises he can’t keep. I don’t always agree with him, but I appreciate the fact that he’s a man of his word.

Totally agree that the athleticism is significantly better than last year's squad.
I’m 227....and only 6’1...not a big gut either.
230 and 6’9 isn’t “bigger” in my book...

If he's gained weight since last season, he is, by definition, bigger.

He’s an athlete.

Kidding...!
In honesty you couldn’t go play 40 games and train like they do and stay 227. You’d be 180-190

I think we all know that rebounding needs to improve. Adding a 7'0 Kur to the starting lineup and having doo move to the wing is a plus if it can work.

Not about promises, either he can defend a 3 or not. Can Kur function enough on both ends of the court.

I recall the plan was for Lattin to move out to the wing at some point as well.

I would doubt that, maybe be able to shoot the 3 and take his man off the dribble. I’m not doubting it was said or the plan, but there was little hope for him being a perimeter player.

I don't think there was ever talk of him moving to the wing. There was certainly discussion of him extending his range, but that is a goal for just about every big on every team. But I certainly don't recall any coach suggesting that he would play anywhere other than the four or five.
