The Pride play league-leading Chicago tonight. You can watch on YouTube via that National Pro Fastpitch website. Keilani is going against Monica Abbott. In the first game of the series, Abbott got the loss in relief, one of those extra-inning games in which they begin an inning with a runner on second. Lauren faced Abbott and struck out. Lauren has had hits in the last two games and is beginning to raise her average. I think it is up to about 154 after a horrid start. Shelby has been slumping and is not in the lineup tonight. Game is at 7:00.

Is Michelle pitching or on our staff as an assistant? Or both?

Maybe both. Michelle pitched a two-hit shutout in the last of four games for Chicago against the Pride. Lauren got the first hit off of Michelle, a shot down the left field line for a single. Chicago is in first place by 2 1/2 games over the Pride, and the Pride won the first two in Chicago to get to within a half game. Then, Abbott and Gascoigne shut them down. So, she is there.

After a torrid start, Shelby has cooled off and is down to 241 with one home run and six rbis. She also has two doubles.

Lauren started very, very slowly and was at about 125 until the past three or four games. She is now at 175 with two home runs and four rbis. I think that both of her home runs have been game-winning two-run shots. Both have struck out twelve times. Shelby has fourteen more at bats. They sat Lauren for a couple of games. She was going that badly.

You can watch Mexico USJW right now in the first round of the playoffs. Mexico leads 4-1 in the fourth.

Edit: Sydney continued her 333 hitting with a line shot down the left field line with the bases loaded to get the US team to within 4-5. A second rbi was lost when the runner was thrown out at the plate. Bases loaded again. Bases loaded walk ties the game at 5-5, but a line out double play ends the threat. Tied after five. It looks like Sydney sees the ball well. She gets wood on it a lot. Well, in this case, it would be aluminum.

USJW came back from a 5-1 deficit to beat Mexico 6-5. Romero made the last out, going to her right and stabbing back-handed a one-hopper on one knee, throwing back across her body from her knee to first to get the final out. I don't think Shelby would have made that play.

Shelby had a day like Day One today, 3 for 3 with a double that were instrumental in the first three runs that the Pride scored on Akron, winning 4-1. Her slump ended nicely. Lauren was one for three, leading off the first scoring inning with a single in the fourth. Shelby followed with a single. Cat got the win. Chicago is 18-6. The Pride is 12-6. Akron is third at 12-11. This was the first game of a Morning/Evening double header with the two teams meeting again tonight at 7.

The Pride lost the first game of a double header to Akron, 4-5. Shelby brought the Pride to within one with a home run in the top of the seventh.

In the nightcap with Keilani pitching, Shelby and Lauren each hit solo home runs to right and center, respectively, to give Keilani a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth.

Shelby must like the publicity. The Pride could not solve the pitching of Miranda Kramer of the PA Rebellion and trailed 1-0 after six innings although Cat had pitched a no-hitter. She walked two and hit two in the first to give them a 1-0 lead. But, the Pride had no offense. Then, in the top of the seventh, Kretschman got a single, and the next hitter was hit. After Shipman flew to right, Shelby slammed a one-out double into right center scoring both runners for a 2-1 lead. She was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. The next hitter grounded out. The Rebellion went out in order in the seventh, and Cat's win was due to Shelby's double.

21-6 Chicago Bandits (Michelle Gascoigne)
16-7 USSSA Pride (Shelby Pendley, Lauren Chamberlain, Keilani Ricketts)

The Pride only have three more games on the road, all against the Rebellion. Then, they entertain Chicago in Florida for four before the Rebellion with four at home in Florida. That four-game series in Florida will decide the pennant. Most of the Pride's remaining games are at home in Florida.

Were the Espy's this weekend? Lauren did not play in any of the three games this weekend against PA Rebellion. Since she has begun to hit, that was surprising. The Pride and the Dallas club are on CBS sports network tonight at 6.

In an interview of Lauren that originated in Orlando she indicated she would miss only one game but was going to be at the ESPY's this weekend.

20-7 USSSA Pride
21-8 Chicago Bandits

They will square off in Florida on CBS Cable sports at 6:00 tonight. The Pride won the first of a three-game series 5-1 behind Cat Ostermann who is in her final year. It is likely that the Bandits will pitch Monica Abbott and Michelle Gascoigne in the final two games of the series with Keilani probably getting one of the starts for the Pride.

After cooling off a bit, Shelby has been on another tear. She won one game with a two-run double that drove in the only two runs of the game for the Pride. Last night, she was 3-3 with a walk, home run, and double. Lauren missed a three game weekend series and was 0 for 3 last night. Shelby is the favorite for the Rookie-of-the-Year right now with a 303 average with four home runs and twelve runs batted in. Lauren is back down to 214 with three home runs and six batted in. Seems that Lauren's home runs have been at key times to win games.

After listening to Hale's interview with Lauren this morning, it is apparent that she has had some back problems which is probably why she didn't play in the past couple of games. They have been pinch-running for her, and she was always a good runner. She says the Espy's are this week, and she will miss a day or so.

As it turned out, this was a duel between college roommates: Michelle Gascoigne 4-1 1.94 ERA eighth in the NPF of the Chicago Bandits vs Keilani Ricketts 4-1 1.53 ERA sixth in the NPF of the USSSA Pride (Orlando). It began like nobody was ever going to get a hit.

Then, in the top of the third, a second-string catcher, a rookie from Idaho State, got her first hit in her pro career, a home run. The next hitter got an infield hit. Then, there were two errors and another infield hit, and Chicago had a 3-0 lead. Only the home run was an earned run. But, it looked like that three run lead would be more than enough. Just two weeks ago, Michelle had shut out the Pride on a two-hitter in Chicago.

With one out in the top of the fifth, the Pride got two ground ball singles. After another out, the Pride got two line drive singles, and it was 3-2. Then, Wiggins, who had been traded from Chicago after last year, hit a three-run home run. Michelle went from sailing along to down 5-3 in six hitters.. Keilani didn't allow another runner, and was relieved by the Pride's closer in the seventh.

Shelby was 0 for 3, and Lauren didn't play..

Chamberlain is back from the ESPYs (she lost to Peyton Manning), and she got what may be her first hit that drove in runs other than a home run. Chicago (tied for first, except with Pride having a percentage point lead) took a 2-0 lead in the first. In the bottom of the third, a bases-loaded walk to Shelby tied the score. Another walk gave the Pride a 3-2 lead. Then, Lauren got a pinch hit single to left that drove in two runs, 5-2. She is now in the game at first. Michelle Gascoigne had just come into the game to relieve the starter (actually was the third reliever in the inning and gave up the single to Lauren.
