THAT would be ugly. Can you imagine a team with UT talent and Beard's discipline? Not sure that Beard would like it given the intense microscope of UT sports. He's a god at Tech now and he could ask for the moon and likely get it (within reason). I dont see him as much of an extravagant guy so he might stay at tech for a bit.

As much as it pains me to admit that Steve guy is right about Shaka coaching so poorly. He's pi$$ing talent away in Austin.

That Steve guy is not always right but he's a pretty smart OU graduate at times LOL

One question is whether he would be able to get top talent to buy into that system. I think that is one of the issues Bob Knight ran into in the last decade of his career -- not all kids are willing to play with that discipline and deal with a very toughminded coach, so even with the draw of UT, a lot of elite recruits may shy away. Not saying it isn't possible, just something to consider.

Also, as to the Doolittle debate (unrelated to coolm's post) -- I don't necessarily think people overrate our players as some have suggested. I think it is more a matter of people underrating the NBA and not realizing how many great players there are. Watching TBT every summer shows how many great players there are who aren't quite good enough to stick in the NBA.

They do, but those are passing comments, and can easily be passed over or chuckled at. It's not as though anyone posted over and over that, for example, Lattin was NBA-bound. That was just someone's over-enthusiastic reaction after he had a good game.

By contrast, consider how many posts we've seen in the past three months that utterly dismissed, for example, Kuath's talents and potential to contribute -- many more than we ever saw touting Lattin's NBA prospects over the course of his career at OU. And the negative comments are as likely to come after a win that didn't live up to someone's standards as after a loss.

Doolittle is a guy with mostly a mid-range game and is more than competent at shooting the college 3 pointer against smaller defenders, but doing that in the NBA is a different story than in college. And by the way, who does Doolittle guard in the NBA? He's not that hard-nosed defender that the NBA requires you to be if you're a tweener. I love Doolittle, like I said in the game thread, he's amazing, but I don't see him as an NBA player. I remember everyone here saying they thought Romero Osby or Aaron McGhee were going to be long-term NBA players. Doolittle is that same kind of guy, maybe not as tough as Osby or as smooth as Ace, but he's in that mold.
I dont think hes going to get drafted or play in the NBA right away, but I do believe if he worded in the G-League for a few years he could get 2 way contracts and play a couple years in the NBA if he really worked at it.

Like I said he would guard the 4, most nba teams dont have a 610 stud coming off the bench or a super skilled stretch.

Harmon had more points and boards than one of our postmen. Kurth coming in made a big difference because we were getting killed on boards and inside.

Speaking of Khadeem, why are they 'passing' comments. Is it because they were proven to be wrong. Seems as if the same thing was said about Jamuni and Spangler as well.

I think I made it clear: Most of the comments cited were made after a single game in which Lattin (whom I used only as an example) or Odomes or some other player had a great game. Yes, they were proven wrong, but so what? They were of the moment, and rarely, if ever, repeated. If someone had spent four years touting Lattin's NBA potential, that'd be another matter, but no one did that -- not even close.

The very same thing was stated about Odomes? Not accurate.

Most certainly a valid concern. He seems to be drawing decent talent into Tech now. If given UT's recruiting strengths he could have a monster impact.

That, or he could just wait for a much better job...there are a couple dozen of those in college basketball. Yes, Texas can pay him a lot of money. There is at least a reasonable chance that one of the hottest coaching candidates in America may want to coach at a school which the primary focus is basketball, not football (sound familiar?).

As for touting certain OU players to play in the NBA, like Doolittle, so what? Skyvue is correct in that fans can become overly enthusiastic about a player's chances because of a game or two. It happens at every school, and not just for one sport. I laugh every April right before the NFL Draft when I read about certain OU players getting drafted when there isn't a prayer in the world of that happening. Or some think a player won't be drafted, but will still play in the League. Chalk it up to "benign predictions from a fan".
