Get the popcorn out. FWIW ...

LSU’s Will Wade says reports ‘do not begin to tell the whole story’
https://www.nola.com/lsu/2019/03/exc...-judgment.html

Quote:
"Serving as the Head Basketball Coach at LSU has been the honor of my life. I love this university and all it stands for. From day one, I’ve been focused on building a winning program made up of excellent coaches and staff and a team of first-rate student athletes.

"I cannot comment at this time on various media reports, except to say that they do not begin to tell the full story. I understand the University had to take action before all the facts are in, but I would ask everyone to withhold their judgment until the record is complete.

“To my players and coaches, I support you 100%, and I will be with you in spirit as the season progresses. Your best response to this is to narrow your focus and make sure the last part of the season is the strongest part!”
Report: Will Wade might have withheld information from LSU
https://www.si.com/college-basketbal...-investigation

Quote:
School officials were somewhat blindsided by the Yahoo! report, multiple sources say. University leaders spoke to Wade about the matter earlier this year following initial reports linking him to the FBI probe, and he assured them that what had already been made public represented the full extent of his involvement. Sources confirm that Wade, under advice of counsel, refused to discuss the situation with LSU officials this morning, which prompted the school to suspend him indefinitely, with assistant Tony Benford taking over as interim head coach. Wade's actions constitute insubordination and failing to cooperate with an investigation, both grounds for a firing for cause, according to a copy of his contract, obtained by Sports Illustrated. The school can fire him without owing him his remaining salary.

If officials determine that Wade did not fully disclose information about an NCAA violation or committed a violation, that too is grounds for a firing for cause. On Friday afternoon, Wade released a statement to local media outlets that called for patience: “I cannot comment at this time on various media reports, except to say that they do not begin to tell the full story. I understand the University had to take action before all the facts are in, but I would ask everyone to withhold their judgment until the record is complete.”

LSU will get hit very hard for the sins of basketball royalty. This is what the NCAA was waiting for. An easy case against a nobody Bball school so they could save Kansas, et al.

Yeah, let’s ask Ole Miss and Missouri about the idea of throwing yourself on the mercy of the NCAA. Meanwhile, UNC got away with academic fraud by simply denying everything to the end. Yahoo has even more against Miami football, including the literal receipts, and the Hurricanes got off with scholarship reductions and no postseason ban. Playing ball is an insane strategy that just tempts the NCAA to spin their Wheel O’ Justice.

And the idea that LSU paying Javonte Smart, and let’s not pretend LSU is not paying its players, somehow casts a pall over the legitimacy of the tournament is laughable on its face. The same FBI wiretaps have caught Kansas, Arizona, Creighton, TCU, and perhaps dozens more yet to be revealed.

Zion Williamson, the best player in the sport and easily the biggest draw of the tournament, was caught on the tapes selling himself “to the highest bidder.” We don’t have proof Duke paid him, but we don’t have proof LSU paid Smart either. If we’re going to play the “don’t pretend we’re stupid” card to connect the dots, then why is it only being applied to LSU and not the sport’s blue bloods?

Looks like soonertravis and hoopsaustin may be right.

Makes me sick to think that the NCAA could make an example of schools like LSU and a handful of assistant coaches, while the kingpins in this scandal go their merry, cheating way!

To be fair, the NCAA hasn't done anything to LSU yet, just like they haven't done anything to KU, Zona, Creighton, etc. And from what we know, Wade (and possibly Miller) are the only head coaches personally caught on the wire tap. LSU suspended Wade, not the NCAA, and for good reason. Not only is he caught directly talking about making illegal offers for the player on the call, he then refused to meet with his AD about it over the weekend, after apparently lying to the AD last year when the initial stories surfaced. Let's see how things play out before we all assume we know all the facts.

Clearly KU or any other elite program shouldn't get off easier than anyone else if they are shown to have done the same thing as lesser programs. But at this point, I think there are still a lot of facts that aren't known yet. Either way, it is nice not having to worry about whether Lon's name is ever going to pop up in these stories!

You mean Shaq and Ben Simmons didn't go to LSU just because they liked the program??

Wade probably doing what is best from a legal standpoint as far as protecting himself, but this really doesn't leave LSU much choice.

What an embarrassment. He's caught on camera buying a player and has the audacity to say he should coach?

Guy should get a lifetime ban.
