Yep... never understood why plays hang around to not play the sport they've played since they were children..

Go get some PT, young man.

It appears so, as you are correct that he has not seen the floor this season. It is possible that this transfer was planned. I am just speculating, but it could be that Lazenby makes good grades and will graduate this semester. Given the NCAA academic performance standards and measurements, this situation could have been a win-win for the player and the team.

Looking back, OU was not the only D1 team recruiting Lazenby out of JUCO ...

Lazenby's recruitment is shaping up to be a Penn State and Utah battle (shoutout Kyle Kuzma), although he did take his first official visit to Charlotte last week, and Texas Tech has been sniffing around. Lazenby's scheduled to visit Utah after his Penn State trip this week, but you better believe Chambers will try to secure his commitment before then.

Any chance any of the recent recruits graduate early and come in for the second semester? They could redshirt ..... maybe even play in 4 games and still be a freshman next season.

It would be nice to have a guy like that as a 5th guard next season.

From everything that I can research, the "4-game redshirt rule" only applies to football.

Several representatives of different governance groups reiterated concerns that caused the proposal to be tabled in April. The Division I Student-Athlete Experience Committee will examine how a similar concept could be applied to other sports, including what number of games would be appropriate. In its review, the committee will consult with the Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Both the Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision representatives on the Council adopted both rules. They are effective for the 2018-19 football season.

No. Very rare and only 1 that I’ve known. Kid going to tech.

Basketball season is nov-March.

Hard to skip your senior year.

The redshirt rule is absolutely only for football.

It's not unheard of. De Sousa did it for Kansas last year. Hamidou Diallo did it as well, although he didn't actually play as a freshman.

2 out of thousands of recruits. You get my point. Some kids do it because they are suspended or not eligible for thier HS season, but yes you are correct, its rare. Matt freeman did it, but his season was from overseas.

Here’s an article on basketball redshirting. There is not a rule allowing a player to redshirt after playing in a few games but there is some discussion about it.

My statement might not be true. I heard last night that OU is probably going to redshirt Kuath. He has played in games so there may be a similar rule.

Could it be that in his case, it would be a medical redshirt since he has only played in a few games? I think you are eligible for that if you haven't played in more than 30% of the games. So assuming his injury is bad enough to be season-ending, he would qualify. Regardless, losing him for the year would hurt and would make it even more imperative that Muni stays out of foul trouble and has a good season.

That deals with medical redshirts, which I think the threshold is 20% of games played.

I don’t have a clue what the rule is for a medical redshirt now, but I believe it used to be six games (which may be around the 30% you mentioned), or it may be the 20% of games 152219 posted about.

I remember a nagging foot injury being used to justify a medical shirt once. Those foot injuries are difficult to diagnose and treat, and they almost never go away until after the season is over.

Good info, Wichita, very thorough!

My guess is the guidelines have evolved over the years from the nagging foot injury I remember, when there was a subtle wink to suggest it was a fairly common occurrence to justify a medical redshirt back then. I feel sure the RS may be more difficult to prove now.

Back in the day there was one year where Bookout got hurt early and there was some talk about shutting him down and getting a redshirt but I think he played through it.

Strange that he's leaving. Seemed like several posters on here thought he was the key to our success last year.

I can remember one poster who came close to that opinion. That's all.

I can remember many more people acting as if him getting three or four minutes of action would surely lead to disaster for the team. The overreaction to the minimal minutes he played was baffling.
