Does anyone have any ideas on whether our being bound for the SEC will help our women's basketball recruiting?

The transition to the SEC will generate more competition for the top athletes. Especially when you consider the Big 12's top 2 coaches are now in the SEC with the whorns joining OU in the move.

When you look at the quality coaches with LSU's Kim Mulkey, A&M's Gary Blair, South Carolina's Dawn Staley, Texas' Vic Schaefer, Alabama's Kristy Curry, Auburn's Johnnie Harris and Tennessee's Kellie Harper there will be a lot of competition for the top talent and Blair, Mulkey and Staley have won nattys while Schaefer has played in the championship game twice which is a factor. Kentucky also has a winning women's basketball tradition. Jennie is going to be tested getting top talent more so in the SEC than the Big 12 IMHO.

I think being in the SEC is a minor help in recruiting as you can pitch to high level players the chance to compete in the strongest highest profile conference. But it is only a minor help…UConn is in a weak conference and Geno’s reputation of winning easily overcomes the weak conference. So the biggest key to recruiting is winning and advancing in the tournament plus having a head coach/staff that builds relationships with the best prospective players. I am encouraged with all the offers to the 24/25 class…build those relationships.

Yes, not doubt it will be difficult in the SEC. I wonder if the other sports will follow the same divisional or pod system that football will have. We might be in a pod with Texas, Missouri and Arkansas. I do not know how the conference games would stack up, maybe two in the pod and one foe every other team. That would be 15 conference games.

It is going to be a tough WBB conference. But I doubt we will do more badly that we ave been doing recently in the Big 12. I hope we can get some positive results this next year.

Correct me if I am wrong but playing 3 pod opponents twice would be 6 conference games and playing the other 12 teams once would be a total of 18 conference games. That is the same as what we play in the Big 12 now.

Some people think that going to the SEC will get us a new facility sooner. Do you think that would affect recruiting?

On a similar note, I noticed a $750K donation designated for the new softball facility just a few days after the move to the SEC was announced.

With you noting a $750K donation and today a $250K donation that is at least $1 million donated since the announcement OU was going to the SEC. To me that indicates the rate of donations may have picked up since the announcement. I hope so. This project is now close to 3 years old.
