Default Rick Issanza

According to Corey Evans OU is hosting 2019 center Ricky Issanza for an official. 7.1 center. 3 star according to Rivals.

I believe he committed today. This may mean Polla will transfer.

Well I guess Doolittle will be riding the bench now.

If he can contribute anything, and polla transfers, then itís a net gain.

Is he '19? I thought second signing period was over. So, what does he do, just show up?

I actually like this signing... Redshirt him, see what he has. Physical tools are too promising. This is a good project.

I agree. Especially when you have the likes of Doolittle/Manek/Kuath/VI to play the paint this season. Give Issanza time to add some weight and get used to the college game. You canít teach 7í1 especially if it can move.

I'm surprised Lon is still recruiting 7 footers when so few college teams play traditional big men these days.<sarcasm>

That is an interesting question... lots of talk about all guards, Villanova, NBA, the Warriors, etc.. What would happen if someone put a 2002 lineup out there in the college game?

Using OU players that weren't huge scoring machines, or mega stars...

PG: Quannas White (pretty traditional point guard)
SG: Mike Neal (shooter)
SG: Jason Detrick (slasher)
PF: Kevin Bookout (rebounder)
C: Longar Longar (traditional center, back to basket, etc)

Bench:
Tim Heskett (shooter)
Nolan Johnson (slasher)
Hootie Wiley (traditional center)
Jaison Williams (backup pg)
Andrew Fitzgerald (backup PF)

Bookout and Longar had decent touch, but were mostly traditional "back to the basket" guys.... Combo of shooters and slashers... Good rebounders... Good defenders... etc. I tried to choose players who are very traditional for their position. Not guys who can play 1-4 positions.

Mike Neal is a shooting guard, nothing else.
Longar is a center, nothing else.
Bookout and Fitz are power forwards, nothing else.
Quannas White is as pure a point guard as there is...

Etc...

Overall I think that team would lack athleticism, but no way Nolan would come off the bench on that team, he would definitely start and probably lead the team in scoring.

If he has committed, why hasn't there been any formal announcement?

Am I missing something?

So is the school waiting for the kid to announce it? I would think the Hoops office would put out some sort of release. I'm not savvy on the details of commitments and announcements.

My understanding has always been that until a kid is officially signed, the school can't even reference him by name per NCAA rules. That's why they make all the announcements as soon as the signed LOI is in hand.

Didn't that happen last year? Some guy for ORU or Colorado State or something. Announced transfer but the staff didn't even actually offer him.

Good memory, I think it was an ORU kid who supposedly committed to OU but either it never happened or wasn't official. He wasn't a grad transfer so he would have had to sit out last season, but I wonder where he ended up. Was his last name Martin?

If polla didnít transfer before, not sure why he would now. This kid has redshirt written all over him.

No reason for Polla to transfer. Issanza would be the 13th scholarship right?

True. He can't sign a LOI because the signing period is over. He can still go to OU and becomes officially "committed" the day he attends his first summer school class...... they start on June 10th.
