I understand the concerns about having all an "all guard" coaching staff. I just think that having a coach that was a post player is overrated. Especially one with a WNBA background. All of the coaches that were mentioned above, have worked their way up through the coaching ranks and gained experience.

On that note, I know most on here are determined that we need some stud post players here. While I agree that we need much better than what we have, we haven't exactly had bad post play until this year. I feel like our biggest problem as a whole is recruiting bigger, more athletic guards. We have one in Ana, but we have way too many 5'7 guards that aren't quick. This really affects our defense and rebounding. If we had a 6'2 post and two or three 6' guard/forwards out there with them, our defense would improve dramatically. Notice that Iowa State recruits a lot of the same style of kids that we have been. The difference lately is that they are all 6'-6'3 and ours are 5'7-'5'10. That is a huge difference on the defensive end. With the lineups we had on the floor this year, there was such little room for error! Having size and athleticism makes up for mental and physical defensive mistakes.

I could not agree more!!

It seems that SC thinks these undersized 5'7"-5'8" girls will have an advantage with their speed and mobility overall but it's not been the case. She's recruiting, and landing for the most part, guards that are more unathletic but decent shooters. We need a combination of both in our recruits/commits! Ana, Madi and Gabby are definitely a step in the right direction IMO. We just need an ultrathletic, amazing distributor PG and a mobile, non-project type of post player. I say Scott is a forward or wing at best, not a center, same with Bloom, so IMO we are still lacking a post. Without a good PG and Post that can at least be a defensive presence, we will struggle.

Does anyone know how this compares to our recently departed coaches? I sure hope these two are worth every penny!

Washington is being paid approximately what Jan Ross made her last year as an assistant and Stiles is making about what Thrailkill and DeCosta made. Colton is making $85K.

The numbers for the former assistants were last published 3-4 years ago so their salary is only approximate. Colton's salary was announced last fall.

What detailed information I found references what Chad and Pam were actually paid for fiscal 2018. It is not their salary as listed in their contract with OU. It would include any bonuses they were actually paid. Also Colton would have been paid as a graduate assistant during the 2018 fiscal year. He was promoted to assistant coach in September 2018 which is fiscal year 2019.

Jan Ross: $222,230
Chad Thrailkill: $163,461
Pam DeCosta: $157,230
Colton Coale: $46,285

Based on experience, Colton is the one that is over paid.

Jackie Stiles seems to be driven at everything she does. For that reason I have high hopes for her. Sherri may keep her controlling ways but I don't see her stopping Jackie from working after practice with players on fundamentals, free throw shooting, etc. I think her drive (which I am not sure is not a little beyond the "healthy" realm) may motivate players.
I am not sure how CW and Sherri will work if Sherri doesn't let her actually coach.

I believe Jackie coached at her Alma Mater
because that's where she wanted to coach, not because she didn't have other opportunities. Believe she wanted to one day be head coach there. She did apply when the job came open but she says they decided to go another route..maybe said more experienced coach was why the other coach got job. (Not that what they say has anything to do with the truth). They supposedly wanted her to stay. One thing that may or may not have been considered when deciding about her being head coach may have been her health. That could have affected her getting jobs other places when she didn’t get the head coaching job. I am not sure what the time period was from the time the new head coach was announced to the time that she was hired here.

Chad had about 3 years more as an OU assistant than Pam and based on 2018 fiscal year the delta between the two was only about $6,000.

Plus, DeCosta left and came back. That could have had something to with the difference.

Also Pam had resigned as HC at San Jose after going 10-106 in 4 years. She was obviously not in high demand at the time.

From Eric Bailey: Hall of Famer Jackie Stiles talks joining Sooners program, leaving a place where she's a legend and battling cancer

Quote:
Jackie Stiles had a feeling that her basketball journey would guide her back to Oklahoma and Sherri Coale.

The Sooners’ new assistant women’s basketball coach could have started an OU relationship out of high school. Instead, Stiles attended Missouri State, where she reached legendary status at the Springfield school.

The third all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I women’s basketball, she earned three Missouri Valley Conference player of the year awards at Missouri State. How dominant was her career? The league’s top award is now named after her.

Who knows what would have happened if she attended OU. The Claflin, Kansas, graduate chose Missouri State over the Sooners, UConn and Kansas State.

Stiles, 40, is now joining Coale’s staff. Both were inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

“When I first got into coaching, I was telling my mom if I could hand-pick the person I would work for, it would be Sherri Coale,” Stiles said. “Whether it was that I was her first recruit when she first took the job and that interaction, I’ve always looked up to her as a coach when I got into coaching.

“I pinch myself and say ‘This is my boss. She is tremendous.’”
