Default High school athletes of the week

Aaliyah Moore, Moore

With each game, Moore freshman Aaliyah Moore’s confidence builds. And so does the Lions’ confidence.

That’s bad news for opponents. Moore is starting to discover a new dominance and confidence she lacked early in the year, which has led Class 6A No. 17 Moore to a six-game winning streak.

In last week’s upsets of No. 11 Norman North and No. 8 Norman, the 6-2 Moore led the Lions in scoring and rebounds. She is The Oklahoman’s Player of the Week.

“It was a big step in my confidence,” Moore said. “I’m trying to get my confidence up and then the game will come into it. Last week really helped me with that.”

Against Norman North, Moore posted a doubledouble with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She also had six assists. Friday against Norman, she dominated with 18 points and seven rebounds while the Lions played without two key guards.

“I think she’s really learned how to play complete games and learned how to dominate games at times,” Moore coach Brent Hodges said.

And it’s no coincidence as Moore heads into a matchup with No. 5 Westmoore it’s on a red-hot run. She’s been a really big catalyst of why we’re playing so well these last four weeks,” Hodges said.
