Interesting to hear coach KJ speak at the Sooner Club meal before last nights Creighton game, sort of hinted without really quite saying so we got hosed in last years Natty. Have 4 home meets, bama, uga, fla and UCLA(last years nat champ)
Nat championships are in Ft Worth, third weekend of April I think. Hope sooners will pack the place

The only two times we lost it was due to just enough points to the final gymnast to put Florida over the top and UCLA in the national championship. The 10 to the UCLA gymnast was the most suspect.

We should be even better this year.

I thought UCLA had a great night, for UCLA. Slightly overrated performances. Judges got excited to see them do so well.

But, I thought we had, for us, a lackluster night. When does Maggie Nichols not get a 10 on beam? We kind of had four off-night type performances on beam, and that is where Kindler has success. We were 9.885 on the beam as an average instead of usually around 9.1 or 9.2.

What transpired is always going to be a problem in gymnastices as the only means of judging performance is subjective. The rules were changed to add judges and eliminate the high and low score after the Russian ripoff in the Olympics which significantly addressed the issue. But the problem is never going to be totally eliminated.

I think this works to the disadvantage of the favorites as most inherently have subconscious desire to see the underdog excell even judges.

Sooners Feeling Good in Season Opening Win
http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArti...CLID=211785645

Quote:
Fayetteville, Ark.- Maggie Nichols scored the first perfect 10 of the 2019 season and the No. 2 Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team opened the year with a statement victory, downing No. 12 Arkansas 198.050-195.575.

Nichols now has five perfect 10s on vault and 16 in her career, earning the Sooners’ 40th perfect score in program history. Nichols won the event title on vault, beam (9.975) and the all-around (39.750) while senior Nicole Lehrmann took the top spot on bars with a 9.95 and freshman Olivia Trautman took home a share of floor with a 9.95. Brenna Dowell made her beam and all-around debut, posting a 39.550 in the all-around for second place.

The Sooners are the first team since at least 1997 to post a score of 198 or better in an opening meet. It tops the program record of 197.750 set in 2017 when the Sooners opened at home against Alabama. The 198.050 also marked the 19th time in the last four seasons that OU has posted a score of 198 or better.

NORMAN - In front of an incredible crowd, Oklahoma put up yet another outstanding score that no team in the country could match as the No. 1 Sooners defeated No. 5 Georgia 197.825-195.300. The Sooners owned the moment in front of their home crowd as they once again proved why they’re the top team in the nation.

With the winning score, the Sooners now hold the record for the most consecutive meets with a score of 196 or better at 107 meets. The next closest team has a streak of just 44 such meets.

"For this early in the year, I think it's a great outing,” head coach K.J. Kindler said. “I think Georgia is a storied program that came out with their highest score since 2007 at their home opener. They're a strong program. They came out on bars probably not exactly how they would like to, but they're a very good team. When you know you're going against a top team, there's that additional fire in you. You have to be that much better to come out ahead. I think the team took that as a challenge walking in here tonight.”

No. 2 Florida vs. No. 1 Oklahoma
Feb. 1, 2019 | 6:45 p.m. CT | Norman, Okla. | Lloyd Noble Center

Quote:
NO. 1 vs. NO. 2 ... The best of the best will be on display Friday night as No. 2 Florida comes to Norman for a top-two battle. The Sooners and Gators, who have combined to win four of the last five national championships, will take to the LNC floor at 6:45 p.m. CT. A combined five athletes currently rank in the top-10 of the all-around standings as Maggie Nichols (first), Brenna Dowell (sixth) and Anastasia Webb (seventh) represent OU, and Trinity Thomas (fourth) and Alicia Boren (10th) represent the Gators.

KINDLER VS. SEC FOES ... In 13 seasons, OU head coach K.J. Kindler has posted a 39-8 record in the regular season against SEC foes. In 2018, the Sooners went 3-1 in the regular season against the SEC, defeating Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia. This season, the Sooners are 4-0 against the SEC with two wins over Arkansas and victories over Georgia and Missouri.

THE ROAD TO FORT WORTH RUNS THROUGH NORMAN ... The Sooners have arguably the toughest home schedule in the nation in 2019 with 2018 NCAA Championships teams Alabama, Florida, Georgia and UCLA making the trek to Norman. Along with Oklahoma, the five teams have combined to win the last 23 NCAA Championships. Florida, Oklahoma and UCLA have combined to win the last five.

SERIES HISTORY ... Florida leads the all-time series 18-10-1. The Sooners went 2-1 against the Gators in 2018 with a loss in the regular season, and two wins in the postseason. OU and Florida finished second and third at the 2018 NCAA Championships, respectively.
