I could bore you for hours with "illegal public school football recruiting rumors" from the '80's and' 90's.

This is very normal. Being a July birthday who grew two inches in college wish I had been held back for athletic reasons and driving early. Never mattered academically.

For the last 25 years boys with late birthdays start late and are then held back at some point before high school. It’s how they get to 20 before ever stepping on a college campus.

I've lost track: Is there still something big potentially in the works or has that window of opportunity closed?

I was a June baby and I wish my parents would have started me a year later. I was always one of the younger kids in my class. I was still a big guy relatively speaking, but another year to grow and mature would have helped even more from a sports standpoint. To this day, all I have to show for it are bad knees and a bum shoulder.

So how are we going to spend our last two ships?

Starting 4 (Johnson, Collins, or Holland are dream options but unrealistic)
Best available guard — shooter or ball handler

Definitely need a starting 4. Then best player available. Shooters are always nice. We don't need a 5 numbers-wise, thus probably won't add one, but I'd love an athletic rim-protector if our 4 doesn't fill that role. Perhaps a 4 that can play minutes at the 5 when Hugley is on the bench would be the best way to get that.

These are clearly the top 4 wish list options at the 4, right?

Daimion Collins
Ron Holland
Kesha’s Johnson
Ven Allen Luben

Who else might be a fit? The guy from Tennessee? David Jones from St John’s?

Yep, if I had to rank them:

1. Ron Holland

big gap

2. Olivier Nkamhoua
3. Ven Allen Lubin

gap

4. Keshad Johnson
5. Daimion Collins

Agree with their rankings. Maybe could quibble over the order of Lubin and Johnson, but think you got it right.

I can’t imagine Holland would give us a second thought since he will have basically every team in the country after him and there is no indication we were in the mix originally.

I would take any of them and consider this offseason a huge success. Hopefully that translates in the upcoming season.

So ... how's it going?

I'm going to bet that Daimion Collins is going to sign with OU. I know he's had a tough season and a lot going on. OU was his #2 and is the same distance from home as TCU and Baylor.

It doesn't shock me that we haven't heard much since his grandfather just passed away. My guess is that's also because he already knows where he's going since he's only got 10 days to figure it out, and there's no smoke around visits or other contacts.

We have a different coach, and one of the bigger draws for him was being friends with Bijan and CJ. Three of the biggest factors in our favor are gone now. It could happen, but it's likely uphill.
