Default The positive

I think losing last night gave us our best chance at making a run in the big 12 tourney. Obviously Iíd rather that not have happened, and it wonít matter if we donít play better. But now we are set up on the opposite side of Baylor, who I think is the only team we really canít beat if we are on. We have to play an extra game now, but if we were to get past Iowa state we will likely face West Virginia, that depends on their game with osu Saturday.

I have mixed feelings about getting ISU....

1.) If you somehow lose to them, it basically wrecks the entire second half of our season.

2.) If you beat them, you get another win and a chance at another quality run.

I just highly doubt OU loses to ISU, but scenario #1 is catastrophic.

I saw 3 things which were a positive in last night's contest.

The team had fight.

Perhaps we saw how effective the defense can be with Kur on the floor and maybe we see more of it as opposed to less.

Alondes played meaningful minutes (but the dude needs to finish better around the rim).

We saw a better defense with Kur. The question is did Lon see it?

We saw better shot-blocking/altering but I don't know that the defense is that much better. As soon as Texas adjusted to Kur being in the game they put him in the pick-and-roll, slipped the pick, and Sims had one of his many monster dunks of the night.

Driving lanes disappeared on offense when Kur came in. When the other team goes with two 6-9 to 6-10" players Manek and Kur both have to be on the court. Didn't happen against Texas or OSU (twice). Lon does not make adjustments and his end of game offense is terrible.

Because Manek can't guard Greg Brown or almost any 4s in the big12.

This. Also, when did OSU have two 6'10" guys on the floor?

I can think of just as many reasons Brady should play less. Getting owned by Texas and OSU bigs is a good place to start.

You're not wrong. It's a real quandary.

While not catastrophic, losing to ISU could put us in the #8/#9 game for the second consecutive tourney (after never playing in that game prior). I was at the game two years ago when we lit up a Mississippi team that closed the year kind of the way we're closing this year. I don't want to be this year's Mississippi, so let's just beat ISU.

Even with a loss to ISU, the chances are more in favor of squeaking out a 6 seed than they are of dropping all the way to 8. Compare OU's resume with any prospective 7 seed (currently Missouri, Florida, BYU, and Wisconsin per bracketmatrix.com) and it's not close.

***Actually, I lied. Missouri does have a really good Q1 resume and I'm not sure why they're so low. Probably their three Q2 losses. OU has none of those but does have a Q3 loss and would have a Q4 loss in this scenario. Swap Missouri out for current #6 seeds Clemson and Colorado and the point stands.

Nobody appreciates OU's accomplishments less than this board.

Regardless, I agree that beating Iowa State should not be a daunting task.

All true. But he still needs to get more PT because he at least has a chance to slow down bigs. He also blocked several, intimidated some, and grabbed some rebounds.

Manek's PT should always be based on match-ups. Plus, if he shoots it well, it offshoots his post defense (which he is being asked to do something that he is not suited).

He is an important piece of the team's puzzle but not 30 minutes per game, imo.

Good. I agree we are a Top 20 caliber team and we are still capable of beating Top 10 caliber teams.
