Default too bad sillisooner isnt around

spent time this morning with his old buddy Eddie Jackson. Silli liked to wax nostalgic about Eddie and those OCU teams as well as the OKC AAU teams later.

Even as a 70-generian Eddie looks like he could lace'em back up and hit the floor. He's as sharp and engaging as ever. Always the gentleman. With a heart like Silli's. We talked basketball a bit with him and Jerry Jones (an old OU lineman in the Bud days).

A good day to remember my friend silli.

I remember those OCU teams back when Eddie Jackson played. Abe Lemons was the head coach and Paul Hansen assisted him. I became friends with Paul when he would bring those AAU teams to Ponca City for their tournament. Great guy.....

They had some good players in addition to Eddie. The Koper brothers, Gary Hill, Gary Gray, etc. Players like Arnold Reed and Short were before my time. I went to HS in OKC and we used to go play pick-up ball at OCU. They were fun times.

As a kid living in Ponca City, I use to love watching the AAU Tourneys each year. Eddie played for the Oklahoma City Angel Aires. Me & my friends would go to all of the games with my dad, and we would carry the player's bags for them. Eddie was always nice to us, but kinda quiet. I remember one year Houston & Dickie Nutt played with a team called Carver YMCA. They both were great with all of the kids. By the end of the tourney, they had a cult following trailing them each time they came to the gym. My dad played with the local Ponca City Team called Conoco Oil. My dad was also the first black player to play at NOC in Tonkawa. He traveled the AAU circuit playing for a team in Kansas. I loved those days. We lived in the gym.....Many good college players, and a few NBA players made their way to Ponca for those tournaments.

Clarence P. was one of my dad's best friends. I believe my dad played a few yrs before him. He was a great man. His son also was a great hoops player and QB at Po-Hi. My dad played before black athletes were allowed to play at Po-Hi, so he attended Attucks, which was the all black school in Ponca at the time. I remember everyone telling me as a kid about a great game my father played against Geese Ausbie of Globetrotter fame. If my memory is correct, he played at Crescent. Both had over 40 pts in the game.

I didn't know him personally, but he was a great poster and one that we have all had a relationship with for a long time. He is definitely missed.

With that in mind... some of us regulars need to setup a system to notify people in the unfortunate event of ones death or hospitalization. I, for example, would want to know if something happened to Adasooner, CoolM, and many others.

Great idea, bigabd! I also appreciate your concern about OU fan board relics like Coolm and myself. Well, one of us is a board relic. I shouldn't say that about Coolm.

I, too, miss posters like sillisooner and one of my all time favorites, Fatty4ksu. Funny how fan board regulars like us develop a friendship with people we never really met in person, isn't it?

I have been concerned and praying for an OUHoops staff member for several months. Since Usedtobe1 shared his battle with a rare form of cancer on the board during the season last year, I don't feel I'm violating his right to privacy by talking about it now. His MD Anderson physician's prognosis is not good. But through it all, Usedtobe1 has remained upbeat as well as an inspiration to me, and no doubt everyone around him.

He's one of the bravest guys I know! Please join me in praying for my friend Usedtobe1.

Thanks for the reminder, Ada. We're pulling for you, Usedtobe1, and we're grateful for your ongoing contributions here on this board. You'll be in my prayers.

Wow, I missed this. I join in wishing him well, and will pray in the name of Jesus on his behalf. GOD bless Usedtobe1.

Smile Re: too bad sillisooner isnt around

Thanks for the prayers. I'm doing OK for now. I have a rare form of bile duct cancer called a Klatskin's tumor. It's what Walter Payton had. It spread to my liver so I had a resection last May where they removed 45% of my liver and "re-plumbed" me, but couldn't get all the cancer. On June 26th of 2016 my oncologist told me it was stage 4 and had spread to my stomach lining, and gave me 12 months to live. I've been on a chemo trial since then. Yuk.

I'm actually doing pretty well right now. I helped coach one of my 4 grandson's 4th grade basketball team this winter. I can't run.... too weak, but can walk. I've never had any pain or nausea, and they tell me I'm stronger than anyone who has gone thru their trial. My biggest issue is lack of appetite. I'm 6'2" and weighed 210-215 when diagnosed. I played open level racquetball about 4 times per week at the time. I weigh 165 now.... but get around OK.

I obviously love OU basketball. I just like basketball in general. I was a HS ref for years. I graduated from OU in '69 and have been a fan of all sports.... but love OU football and basketball about the same.

I do have my faith, so I'm not afraid to die. I wish I had more time to watch my grandsons grow up. I admit I'm not as interested in 2019 and 2020 recruiting as I should be, but I'm hoping to get thru another season.... or two. Until the time comes, I plan to be active on this board. I choose to remain the optimist and make the best of the time I have. God has been good to me and I'm thankful for everything he has given me. Surely he won't take me after the season we just had

meh what do they know anyway. my first resection the surgeon advised me to make peace and contact my next of kin. Made it and he gave me a year. That was 3 years ago. I have had 3 surgeries since but I'm still alive. I just figure each day is a gift so I try to have some fun and carefully feel my way along.

I also agree. Not sure anyone could express it any better than that. You both are in my prayers also.
