If they can, OU should be able to. Just me, though. Not saying go for all 1 and done players. But top 100 or 150 should be the goal.

He’s referencing the movie, starring penny hardaway, where the coach just bought all the players. Which is incredibly obvious what is happening here. These players weren’t even alive when penny was in the league, and they sure as hell don’t respect his non-existent coaching prowess.

Players follow the money. That’s how recruiting works.

Seems premature to say one way or another whether he can coach at this level since he has only been there a year. Who knows if they are cheating, but worth remembering that (a) he is a local legend who has been coaching there for years, and (b) Memphis is a basketball-obseseed city that will fill that place every night. Not crazy to see why kids would want to go there, especially ones from the area. Seems like something that could either succeed or fail spectacularly, probably nothing in between!

It seems that most of the guys who are committed to Memphis played for PH in AAU, so no real surprise they'd want to go play for him in college. And OU's 2019 class ranks right there with Memphis's current group of signees.

Maybe they can improve, but they were extremely poorly coached last year. Pretty much every time in Memphis history that they’ve been good, they’ve later vacated those wins for cheating. Now all of a sudden they are signing a historically great class, in a sport where it’s well known that many of the top recruits go to the highest bidder. It’s not hard to connect dots and reach a reasonable conclusion.

The kids don't remember him playing but you can bet the parents do remember. That is as important if not more.

We knew Memphis was going to start getting these guys as soon as Penny was hired. He's well connected, and it's the whole reason he was hired.

Caleb Grill going to Iowa State. He ended up as a top 150 player in the last ratings.

No surprise, despite what some would suggest. Unfortunately I don't think he'll be the last good addition this spring.

Doesn't move the needle for 2019. Hampton would.

On all the OU sports boards, there seems to be a common thread that other schools out recruit OU because they pay big sums of money to high schoolers and that's why we don't get those kids.
Sounds like bitter, sour grapes. Probably there is some cheating but certainly there are other reasons, we lose out, not that worn out excuse, we lost out because somebody got paid off.

None of the guys Memphis got were OU targets, it's just stating the obvious. Like when Ole Miss football had a crazy recruiting class a few years ago.

Only you could suggest that a top 50 recruit is insignificant. If anyone else in the league signs a top 50 player, everyone would be gushing.

It's not insignificant. He's a guy that they should get multiple years out of and be able to develop into a really good player. He's not a guy that's going to come in and dominate from day 1. It's a great addition for them, it doesn't change the calculus for 2019.

I agree he won't dominate, but adding a very good player who figures to get a chance for immediate playing time on one of the top teams in the league certainly has the potential to affect the league race, if nothing else. In my mind, I would say that changes the calculus, just like it would if he had signed with any of the other likely contenders.

It may not change the calculus, but it changes the algebra.

OSU got a grad transfer from UMass. He doesn't appear to be a huge difference maker but will give them some depth at the 4 or even the 3.
