From the sounds of it (radio), Harmon will be a serious difference-maker. Can't wait to watch.

Most interesting stat of game to me was Harmon’s 0 assists. Gave them all to himself which worked just fine.

Their two studs were 15/41 from the floor. Vic, Kuath, and Williams combine for 21. Hill scoreless. Another reminder not to overreact to exhibition games. And to be fair, we shouldn't get overly giddy based on tonight, either, beyond acknowledging some encouraging signs.

Re: Big 12 Opening Night Thread (11/5 Games)
Liked the defense.
Biggest positive for me was the number of guys who look like they can play at the big school level. Impressed with Iwaukor and Williams. Hope Hill is OK. Didn't turn on the sound, did they say why Doolittle was not playing?
Reeves and Bieniemy really led the breakout. Still like to see Jamal look to score more. Good to see Harmon show some offense other than the drives to the hoop. Manek much better all around player this year.
Looked like we stopped running our offense after getting the big lead. Thought we rebounded well but suprised to see that both teams ended up with 44.
I think we have a shot at going 9 deep barring injuries.

Re: Big 12 Opening Night Thread (11/5 Games)
Interesting to see JB with 2 points and 5 assists, while Harmon had 23 points and 0 assists. Was JB running a bunch of point? I didn't catch any of the game.

Kansas was the only Big 12 loss last night. Kansas only lost by 2 in spite of 28 turnovers. Not sure if that was good or bad.

Re: Big 12 Opening Night Thread (11/5 Games)
Probably overreacting like after the exhibition, but the team looked great... Austin Reaves looked great, Harmon looked great, Manek looked like Manek... and this was all without one of the best players on the team. You got exactly what you wanted out of first year backups like Kur, Victor, and Alondes.
Last year the team had a good non-con but I never really felt good about Reynolds or Calixte... because I knew they were really mid major guys... These guys looked different out there last night.
Looking very promising.

replay on Fox Oklahoma at 9 am this morning...
as to good/bad ku losing by 2 to duke with 28 TO's...I'd take that as "good"...their #13 fr looks smooth from the time I watched. They definitely are long and athletic...

Re: Big 12 Opening Night Thread (11/5 Games)
Really hope Hill is ok, from what I heard after the game, it certainly sounds like a concussion is a strong possibility. Would be tough for a freshman to have to sit out for any amount of time right after the first game because this is when young players can make so many strides.

Re: Big 12 Opening Night Thread (11/5 Games)
I was impressed with our defense throughout the game. They made some tough shots and we made them work hard to get and make shots.
Offensively, both teams shot awful the first half but kind of like the exhibition, Lon adjusted and we started taking it to the rim.
Reaves second half was special even without his 3 ball falling.
Iwaukor surprised me with his shooting touch, didn't expect that.
Hill didn't show much in the box score but he was very active keeping rebounds alive several times. Hope his head injury isn't long lasting, but doubt that he will play Saturday.
Harmon is special with his play and his energy and leadership.

Re: Big 12 Opening Night Thread (11/5 Games)
Here's a link to our recap by Eric Bailey. Excerpt...
Quote:
De’Vion Harmon and Austin Reaves have waited a long time for this moment.
Oklahoma’s newcomers fueled an impressive 85-67 victory over UTSA on Tuesday night in the Lloyd Noble Center. Harmon and Reaves scored 23 points apiece in the win over the Conference USA school.
“They played great. They’ve been doing that every day, and for them to come out and do that in their first official game as a Sooner is cool,” said junior Brady Manek, who finished with 16 points. “I’m really happy for them. Happy for the team; the team played well. Those two guys, (if) they keep it up, I think we can do something special.”
For Harmon, his debut begins a college journey that began when OU coach Lon Kruger started recruiting him hard in high school. For Reaves, it ended a year of waiting following his transfer from Wichita State.
Harmon wears his emotions on his sleeve and his enthusiasm seeped into the postgame news conference.
“Man, we played a really good second half. A really good second half. I’m proud of my guys,” Harmon said.
“Austin went nuts in the second half. That was crazy. And to witness that, just to see him just to go nuts, as a teammate, you’ve got to be happy for him. That’s why I was celebrating. I was like, ‘Man, this dude is going nuts.’ ”

Re: Big 12 Opening Night Thread (11/5 Games)
Great 2nd half. Defense was good all the way around, rebounded well I thought. All the newcomers that played look to be able to provide in conference play. Reaves & Harmon scored really well, Bienemy & Hill played great defense despite their box score.

Yes, I thought Bieniemy was a major contributor, even though he didn't score many points -- 11 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal and a block. Very impressive.
It was a very fun game to watch. I was pretty confident we'd win, even though we were tied by halftime, but that second-half outburst was great to see, especially Reaves going off like he did.

Baylor holding their own against Washington who has 2 players destined to be first round draft picks, but is not rated (score is currently 29-19 w/4 minutes left in the 1st half).
