The only disappointment is that Steve Henson is no longer on staff to teach the textbook on how to become the most hated player in the conference.

Must point out here that Coach had the intel on this at least a day in advance. Where are all the guys who claim his info is just a regurgitation of stuff already on Twitter?

Those of us who come to this board to get info about Sooner basketball very much appreciate the scoop that the true insiders have. Keep up the good work, guys!

+1 CoachTalk is the real deal! He’s one of several true insiders on this board. Thanks everyone!!!

Forgot to comment on Trey Phipps. I think this is a great pick up! You can’t have too many pure scorers/shooters like him.

Glad you followed your Dad, young man!

Right on, Ada.

Together, Coach and I make a great insider/outside combination.

SIAP: Link is a OKhoops report highlight video from Trey Phipps, 2019 UAA Circuit. It's a fairly recent video for anyone that may have missed it posted.

https://youtu.be/oBokQ8q2aaU

He reminds me of Joe Girrad, who we went after a little bit last year from NY. Kid is the NY state HS all time leading scorer and one of the best shooters in the country last year. Joe has a similar build being a 6'1" SG but he can fill it up. Duke came calling late but I don't think they offerd but he had Michigan, Baylor, Notre Dame, Stanford and Washington offering before choosing Syracuse.

I'm not sure if other schools will come knocking at the door for Phillps but they probably should. Kid can shoot lights out.

If you can ask a question like "is this person the best shooter in the country", that can only be a good thing.

I must admit, I know nothing about him. He seems tiny though... Like, 5'11'' or 6'0'' 140 pounds tiny. I know Rivals has him listed at more than that.... but the kid looks 12 years old.

If you look at his twitter post he appears to be about 2” taller than Lon. Lon was 5’11” so 6’ to 6’1” looks about right.

He isn't 5'11 and 140. He is 6'1 and is a player. He is a better shooter than Thompson and never misses a free throw especially in the fourth quarter. Good pick up

Hope you all don't mind me recycling this thread It became official today.

From Eric Bailey...

Quote:
Trey Phipps is the son of Booker T. Washington Hornets head coach Conley Phipps, who played at Oklahoma in 1985-86 and 1986-87.

Phipps will join an Oklahoma roster that is expected to be largely intact next season. The only loss will be current senior Kristian Doolittle.

“Becoming a Sooner is something I always dreamed about as a kid,” Phipps said. “Being able to have the opportunity to play at OU is something I’m extremely grateful and excited for.”

Sounds like the kid can shoot the ball. For anyone that has seen him play, do you think he is a good enough athlete to compete and defend at the D-1 level.

I remember his dad, a prolific shooter in HS. Thought he might turn out to be a good contributor at OU but didnít work out. I think he transferred to a smaller school and was very good there but canít recall where(I am sure someone will recall). Trey obviously can also shoot and looks quick enough to be a different story for the Sooners.
