Default Payton Pritchard

Is this his fourth year at Oregon? Anyone ever wonder what he’d have been like had he stuck with OU?

Good question, Stikboy. Had he stayed at OU, he would have competed with Scottie Reynolds as the best 4-year point guard in OU history :-).

And he still would not have beat out Je’lon Hornbeak as the best four-year guard in OU history.

Hollis actually played four years at OU, so he was definitely one of the best guards in OU history.

Pritchard and Reynolds never even made it on campus. Hornbeak played two years and than transferred. Yet, all three have been adored and discussed for years, as if they should be included in the best of all time conversations. Now, do you understand why HP was not mentioned?

For the record, my favorites list will always include Hollis.

Quannas White was the point guard during Hollis’ last 2 years. Price played the 2.... he wasn’t really very effective as a PG in my opinion. He was a charismatic leader and a great shooter. Quannas was really solid. He was so strong.

Some of my favorite PG’s include John Ontjes and Austin Johnson. Ontjes only played 2 years at OU but he epitomized how a good PG runs an offense.... now he’s at Hutch juco and SHOULD BE the OU women’s basketball coach..... his teams have won 85% of their games in his now 13th year as the women’s head coach. Austin was maligned his first couple of years at OU but was really solid his final 2 years. His long arms made him a really good defender.

Other PG’s include Eddie and Terry Evans .... father and son.

Also, Lester Lane is worth honorable mention from the 50’s. He was actually a member of the 1960 US Olympic basketball team and was later named the OU head basketball coach in 1973, but had a heart attack and died at age 41 before he ever coached a game. He was also a starting defensive back on Bud Wilkinson’s powerhouse football team, and lettered as a pole vaulter. He must have been a heck of an athlete.

Of course Mookie Blalock was the best PG in OU history but he was a juco transfer. He was so very quick and fast.

His senior year is off to a hot start but I expected him to have a little better career. Thought he could be closer to a 18 ppg kid

I might be wrong but, I don't believe Mookie Blaylock was the point guard in his first year at OU in 87-88. I think it was Ricky Grace. They both came from Midland College only Grace arrived one year before Mookie. Mookie was the 2 guard during the year OU went to Finals in Kansas City. He took over the point in the 88-89 season after Grace graduated.

This is correct.

Grace was the PG in 88, Mookie a little bit in relief and Terrance Mullins a little in relief. Billy really only played the starters that year, with 3-4 guys (Mullins, Martin, Wiley, Jones) off the bench getting spot minutes. But if you add up all their minutes together I don't think it would have been equal to the starting 5.

Mookie played PG the next year and virtually had all the minutes at point. I think he may have set a record for minutes played that year.

Mookie may have been the best PG for one-two years at OU, not counting Trae and his stats two years ago. But best pure PG at OU for a career may have been Terry Evans, if you consider he played point all years, his assists, scoring and 3 pts.

You could say that in the 1987-88 year too. Hence, the outcome of the championship game.

Dad called and was “shopping” him a little to see what coaches could do...

Lon thought it was best to go a different way.

Wow...thought his mom and dad were OU alums. If dad did that, shame on him. All along I thought he chose to go to Oregon to be close to his girlfriend.

Lon didn't pull the offer, but we got played like a fiddle. He'd been committed for ages, and then the "girlfriend" thing started popping up. A lot of folks took that as code for dirty dealings.

I met the kid at In-N-Out in Vegas before the Washington game. Couldn't have been nicer. Looked me right in the eye with a firm handshake. I hated to lose him. It was like watching four years of stability go right down the drain.

Quannas White was the best on ball defender in OU history.

Austin Johnson was not very good.

Mookie is the best on ball defender in ou history and it isn’t debatable. Loved QW though and he was a terrific defender. Skeeter was an under rated defender. I think alondes and victor will be good defenders on this team. I also like ag and rick as defenders

Lon pulled it. When he started looking around. Dad was calling all
Over. There were dirty dealings.
