I agree we should be, but I'm not sure we will. It seems that in basketball it can take a while to climb into the rankings, perhaps because a loss in hoops is (understandably) given much less weight than in football, so teams don't seem to drop very far when they lose.

While that would be nice, I doubt that the Sooners will make the jump from NR/46 all the way to Top 25. I'd guess it will take another week (assuming we remain undefeated).
In the end, it really doesn't matter at this point in the season.

i agree we should start getting AP votes next week ...
in the coaches we have an outside shot of hitting the top 25 in the next poll because they did the preseason poll and then not another one until next monday

Deserved or not, they won't be ranked next week. I can't recall if we even broke into the rankings last season when we were 11-1 heading into Lawrence on January 2. Fortunately, unlike in football, rankings don't matter for anything other than pride at this point of a basketball season.

Pride, yes, but also perception of status. It helps a program's image to be consistently ranked

Re: Weekly Polls thread Week 1.5 Nov 13th
Wasnt Oregon St 26th in one of these polls? I wouldnt be surprised if we hit 24 or 25 depending on who loses. Most likely 2 weeks away assuming we will both games next week.

Re: Weekly Polls thread Week 3 Nov 18th full updated
Must admit I was wrong in thinking we wouldn't be this close to making it in the rankings this week. I think it probably helped that the OSU game was on ESPN2 and was part of a good doubleheader in Portland. Win two this week and we may sneak into the Top 25 heading into KC. Either way, next week will be a nice test against two good teams.

Re: Weekly Polls thread Week 5 up coaches pending
This could be a year where KSU's annually awful noncon schedule comes back to bite them. It didn't hurt them much in years where they were safely in the field, but if they manage to play their way onto the bubble this year, they may regret playing such a weak slate -- they don't have many chances to make up for the two bad losses they suffered last week.
