Big game for us. If we can slow their inside game and score ourselves we have a shot.

Down 8 with a little less than 5 minutes until halftime. Madi is 1-9 from the field with 4 turnovers. Need her to step it up.
Baylor is abusing us inside, particularly since our only available bigs are Scott and an out of position Vann. They’ve also only called one foul on Baylor so far.

41-36 down at half. Madi 6 points on 2-13 shooting. Taylor 2-2 from 3 but those are her only shots. Vann with 12. If we can get Madi going we can win. Nylessa Smith has 18…she is just an impossible matchup for us.

First time we have beaten Baylor in 7 years. Tot and Vann have been huge off the bench.

Another gritty come from behind win. Vann was fantastic with 22 points and good defense having to cover Egbo or Bickle. Madi did play better in the 2nd half and ended up with 18 points and contributed 7 assists. We had 22 assists on our 28 made baskets…well run offense tonight. 14-27 from 3 including Taylor going 5-5. Those 5 gave Taylor the Big 12 record for made 3s at 393 in her career.
Our first win over Baylor in years…ended a streak of 13 straight losses. It is nice to be a legitimate top 25 team that is competitive with anyone again.

I play cards on Wednesday night, so I had to follow the score on my phone!
I recorded it so, I'll have more comments after I watch it.

Cool picture of a young Taylor, probably at a basketball camp, sitting on the court with Laurie Koehn

Gregory, Lampkin, Svoboda, Perkins. Ana was on the bench with a big knee brace on after surgery.

Re: #23 OU vs #14 Baylor 6pm 1/12
They definitely could have used Lampkin tonight. She's been good on defense this year. It was amazing to see Vann playing the five. She played it like a pro.
I think Tot was a key to tonight's win. She scrapped and played fearless. I don't think she's afraid of anything. I really love to watch her play. When she just took the ball away from one of Baylor's bigs, it was amazing.

Re: #23 OU vs #14 Baylor 6pm 1/12
I agree on Tot. She has been a real stabelizing force. Kelbie has a higher upside but she seems to be back to doing too much again. Possibly she is trying too hard to live up the national freshman of the week award that she recently achieved. Really typical frosh progress. Baranczyk has done a good job of getting a lot of minutes for both. And getting value when both are in the game.
And Van playing the 5 on defense. Unbelievable. Gives up some easy baskets to the bigs but seems to make it hard for them to get in good position. Doesn't have a Div I body but definitely Div I hands. I think she has a younger sister who is around 6-3. Hope she is as good and headed for OU. I am not concerned that she isn't starting because she is getting starter minutes and more. Great to have that kind of player coming off the bench.

Re: #23 OU vs #14 Baylor 6pm 1/12
Thoughts:
TR and Maddie are worth paying to watch.
TR is the best shooter, man or woman, I have ever seen, save and except for Steph Curry
Vann had the greatest performance by a OU women's basketball player in 20 years. Totally outmatched in the post, and instead of fouling out, she played tough and smart and just tried to win a possession when she could, and she was great on offense. She is not getting nearly enough credit for her performance. Vann's performance is why I watch amateur sports. You just never know what a kid has inside of them, and what their ceiling is. Some kids just play to win and don't find it acceptable to lose, so long as they have an excuse. Good on you kid. I enjoyed watching you play.
Every once in a while, you see a team that just plays until the buzzer and lets the win or loss just happen. Every coach wants this and tries to instill it. Been a while since I have seen such a team. The ups and downs of each possession doesn't seem to effect the effort and focus on the next play with this team. Good on Jennie and/or her staff and good on the kids.
No matter what this team does this year, I will always wonder what it could have been with Anna. When we lost her, life became much more difficult for Taylor. When teams had to focus on Anna and Madi, Taylor was just lethal.

Re: #23 OU vs #14 Baylor 6pm 1/12
I am the same way. No matter how we play/how great our wins have been I've always reflected on how much better they could have been had Ana AND Gabby been healthy and playing. I definitely believe we'd have beat ISU, that's for sure. While there's still hope for Gabby to come back and play some this season, I believe the BYU is the last game we'll have seen of Ana suited up as a Sooner - such a tragedy. Even other team's fans, who normally root against us, have commented on how sad it is that Ana is out yet again. Out of all the years she's been here, she had one season (freshman) in which she wasn't injured and had to sit out games, so unfortunate!
Moving on, does anyone know the eta of the other players returning??

I love the offense. I am glad the "motion" offense is behind us.

There is another younger sister, Talia Vann, that is a 2025 recruit that is 6’2” as a freshman. Both Vann sisters are at Southmoore this year.

Between covid and/or a medical redshirt could Ana come back next year if she rehabs and still wants to play?
