Certain of our fans are much more generous and forgiving of other programs than our own.

OU basketball is much more respected outside of this state than inside ...
and more respected by the media and others than by lots of its own fans

Re: 2020 Recruiting
I have loads of respect for this program and its accomplishments. It has a very rich history, and for the last 40 years has been one of the top-20 programs in the country. Are there any better than us who also lack a national title? We're not top echelon but, in my lifetime, we're not far from it either.
That's why I think we can and should do better. I feel like we're losing ground to the conference. And I don't see much help on the horizon.

OU fans gripe about injuries just as much or more than anybody else. Many still think we'd have won a MNC against Florida had Murray not been injured. There's also many on here that put an asterisk by KU's conference title Blake's sophomore year.
The difference is, we were a great team with Blake on the court. Woodard played quite a bit his senior year, and in all honesty, we may have played better after he went down. I loved Woodard, but it's not like he was an All-American, or even an All-Big XII first team contender. We were terrible with or without him that year.

Go back and check what our record was before he was out of the lineup the first time, which was right before Christmas. Then check what happened in the few weeks he was out. Not coincidentally, that is precisely when our season cratered. We weren't very good with him and likely wouldn't have even finished .500, but we certainly would have won more games had he played a full, healthy season. He was far and away our best scorer the first several weeks.

Re: 2020 Recruiting
No point in harping about 2017. We needed everything to go right - Woodard to be at least a 2nd team All-Conference player, McGusty to play like the top-30 recruit he was, and for our three sophomores to take the proverbial big jump after their freshman season. None of those things materialized...not even close. Not sure the point in reliving that. Looking back on the two seasons that followed, they were "ok" when you factor in the entire seasons and not just November and December / or January and February. I'm excited about next season and hope we can land an immediate contributor in the 2020 class. If we need more than two, then it's likely things did not go well in 2019-2020.

We were 6-4 in non-conference with Woodard, which is terrible. We only had 1 P5 win in nonconference, and we had 3 mid-major losses. UNI went 14-16 that year. Our season was bound to crater (if it hadn't already) when we entered conference play regardless of whether or not Woodard was with us.
We had lost 7 straight conference games with Woodard before he went down for the year. We then proceeded to finish the season 3-4 in conference without him.
As you stated, we were terrible with or without Woodard. If you agree with that, then you agree that we can't blame that poor season on injury. Whether we went 11-20 or 14-17 is mostly irrelevant.

We were bad with Jordan. Worse without him though. He was not healthy the entire year.

I stand by my assessment of the seasons following our Final Four run. OU should be competing for conference titles, not finishing with a losing record in Big 12 play. Our best finish was sixth during those seasons. I don’t think I’m the only one who was less than satisfied with the way those seasons turned out.

I care making the NCAA tournament and winning games once there.
Obviously, it's easier to do both if you play well in the regular season. I'll agree we've been, generally, mediocre during conference play.
If I look at the big picture, however, I see six NCAA's in seven seasons with a winning record in the tournament.
Can things improve? Absolutely and I hope they do, but let's quit acting like these are the dark days of OU basketball.

Re: 2020 Recruiting
We offered Grady Dick already??? Wow! He is pretty legit and has plenty of talent, but isn't he just a sophomore at Collegiate? Watched him play a couple of times this season.

He's been offered by WSU, Nebraska, and KU in the last 10 days or so. He is already a stud and is only going to improve. Shot up to 6'5" and will likely end up taller still.

2020 will be interesting. Obviously Bryce is a must take.
Probably late to the KK train.
Hefner is interesting. We’ll see what happens

Seems pointless to take a shooter if OU somehow gets Bryce & Hefner (I think OU gets Hefner if they want)
