Default Juco PF Keshaun Hamilton Visiting

@jucorecruiting :
Keshaun Hamilton (6-10/PF/Labette CC) will take an official visit to Oklahoma this weekend.

Anyone know anything about this guy? Will go look up his stats but wanted to post this first.

Tough to track him down, but after some google help, turns out he was at Santa Fe College Juco last year down in Florida and transfered for this season to the Kansas juco. From Florida originally and here are his Santa Fe stats:

14 GP
7.4 pts
7.2 Rebounds
0.4 blocks

nothing crazy and will interesting to see what he does this year with a new team. he is a big ol' boy though

Also, visited OSU August 30 this year.

He is originally from Palatka, Fla. and played juco ball last year at Sante Fe College (Florida).

The latest stats I could find on him were that he was averaging just over seven points and seven rebounds 18 games into his freshman season, but I haven't researched it that hard yet so maybe you guys can come up with more info.

Hamilton has also apparently been offered and already visited Oklahoma State officially. Iowa State, Houston, Washington State and Marshall have also been mentioned as being in the mix, although I'm sure there's others.

There may also be some unofficial visitors in this weekend, but nothing confirmed yet. Hopefully know more tomorrow.

Here's some stuff I've dug up on Hamilton:

Quote:
Hamilton had a nagging injury all summer so he didnít play in any July events which caused him to fly under the radar a bit. The 6-10/270 pound lefty has tons of potential and has a chance to be one of the better post players in the country this season.
http://www.jucorecruiting.com/?page_id=22

This from August 2011:

Quote:
Hamilton is an intriguing prospect. He is entering his freshman year at Santa Fe and is a highly sought after 2013 prospect. The left-handed power forward moves extremely well for his size (nearly 300 lbs.) and can shoot the ball out to 20 feet. He has great hands and feet and is tough to defend around the basket. Hamilton will need to continue to improve his conditioning and should be able to do so with two years at Santa Fe. He will be one of the most heavily recruited 2013 JC prospects. Hamilton had West Virginia, Kansas State and many others taking a look at him in Orlando.

Should OU be recruiting potential if you only have two years of eligibility when you make it to Norman? If they want this kid they should string him along till the spring. He is a Kansas juco guy and every coach on OU's staff has experience in that region.

Things that worry me about this guy:
A) "Nagging injury" and "270lbs" go terribly together. Far be it for me to assume the kid's build based on numbers alone, but that kind of weight coupled with an injury, especially to the back or lower body can be a severe impediment where on a frame that bears less weight a comparable injury could be smoothed out orthopedically.
B) So is this guy a stretch-4 based on his ability to step out and make face-up shots? 6'10/270 is more than sufficient to play center in college, but does that indicate he's a defensive liability at the pivot? Would he have to platoon his minutes, in other words.
C) Kruger's tendencies are up-tempo. Nagging injury + frame may make this kid a tenuous fit at best once Kruger's recruits take the bulk of minutes over from the Capel Legacy crew.

But size and versatility may compensate, if the staff likes him enough to offer a scholly. It just seems like between Bennett, Elliott, Spangler, Cole, and M'Baye that minutes in the post may be rare for JUCO projects -- at least for the amount of eligibility he's got.

Excellent points, furge.

Hamilton was listed at 300 pounds in one report I read, so your concerns about weight control appear to be valid. I wasn't aware of the nagging injuries you mentioned. That's another matter entirely, although as you correctly pointed out the two go hand in hand. That said, if Yo Yo was able to whip Tiny Gallon into shape, maybe he can do it with Keshaun Hamilton. The kid is said to have a variety of skills and a huge upside.

Is a player with two years of eligibility worth the risk? That's a question best left to our coaching staff. But with a limited number of schollies to give in 2013, I would hope that they're in a position to be very selective in filling those spots.

I may not understand everything that LK has done, or is doing so far, but he hasn't had enough (or any) mistakes to make me question his moves yet. If he likes this kid enough to offer him, I'll trust Lon that there is a reason for that. Whether that reason is our standing with other big men recruits, this kid's upside, or something we don't know like Cole staying on an academic scholarship next year. Who knows.

He could redshirt his first year and then have two more to play. He is coming off a knee injury.
I heard that he committed to us this weekend.

as much as I like this idea, we forget that we're losing all size after this year, leaving us with next to nothing, we would need his size immediately

We'll still have Bennett, M'Baye, Spangler and the new JUCO PF committ, Elliott. That's four bigs who are at least 6' 8", even if you don't count Neal or Cole, both of whom could play a post position if need be. For that reason, I can see the benefits of using a redshirt on Hamilton that will allow him to get in shape and move past his injuries, especially if our coaches plan to sign another big in the 2013 class.

Looks like this is an OU-OSU battle. Heard things looked really good for OU when he left Norman. We'll see.

I'm with you AD. I will give Kruger a hood pass, but I don't see any rhyme or reason to their recruiting. I love Amathe, I love Hield, and am OK with the three guards that they picked up. Bennett, Cole, and the to Juco bigs we are going to get this year I don't understand. My biggest gripe is you have Blake Griffin on campus and you bring in a 7pt per game juco guy.

My other gripe is the reason you don't get the Clark kid is because you offered two instate kids that aren't as good as him first, but then you don't offer him or watch him play a high school game until late January. That's the reason the Clark kid likes OSU over OU. OU was his dreamschool and they didn't think he could cut it.

We'll see though. Kruger's resume is outstanding, but it doesn't mean he can't be second guessed.

Some valid points. How was Kruger supposed to know when the Griffin boys would come to town? He was supposed to be at the alumni game and canceled last minute due to a endorsement deal...I think it's too hard to coordinate that with a superstar that lives on the left coast.

Do you think Clark would have pulled the trigger early if Crutchfield and Kruger had showed him the love early? Or would he have dragged this out in order to enjoy the recruiting process and try to hear from the UCLAs and Calipari's of the world. Kid seems to eat up the process (not that anyone should blame him for it). Maybe it wasn't worth the risk for the coaching staff so they focused on the "sure thing".

It was fun watching Capel try to get Tobias Harris, Doran Lamb, Terrance Jones, Josh Smith and Daniel Orton but in the end, we struck out. I'd rather have guys that Kruger thinks we can land and will fit his system.

Just my thoughts...

I heard that OSU is putting the fullcourt press on Hamilton now because he almost pulled the trigger with us.

Don't know, but doesn't mean you can't offer him because he won't. No one pulls the trigger when they get an offer, but to slow play Clark til January but offer everyone and the kitchen sink is a dubious sign of misevaluation.

I'm through drinking "the coach knows best" Koolaid. As you pointed out, Capel didn't know best when he wasted visits on numerous kids he wasn't going to get including D1 coaches' kids. The recruits OU is looking at just seems like a mixed bag and we look to be on the outside looking in on a badly needed high school big.

OU offered Clark early. For whatever reason he doesnt want to go to OU. Thanks OK, we'll move along without him. He isnt a cant miss prospect, he is really good, but not a superstar.

He's not a can't miss, but the energy he would have brought to the program would have been well needed. The gas is out of both instate schools and any shot of adrenaline will help. As an OU fan I was hoping we'd get that shot, not OSU.

Not sure who your talking to, but OU put on the full court press to get him. He doesnt want to be a Sooner. So we have to move on... He cant make up his mind on which school, so you never know

We were recruiting Stevie before January. They think the kid is a special talent and offerred him a scholarship early. He didn't respond very well to the Sooners.
Who knows what the Clark's want but Lon isn't going to play games. He also isn't going to have appointments skipped by a recruit and his mom. Clark isn't good enough for headaches.

By the way coaches don't always know best, Capel didn't even call or write to Spangler who was the best player in the state. He is doing a great job in practice and will be a big contributor in a year.
