Re: Softball
Tennessee is now 18-1 in home games this season.
|
Re: Softball
Finney pitched the fourth in game two. Threw 14 pitches, 13 for strikes. Had an infield hit, two strikeouts, and a grounder to short.
|
Re: Softball
Finney had two more strikeouts in the fifth as OU wins in a run-ruled 9-0 game against Radford. Brit also ended the top of the fifth for OU with a grounder to third. So, she is one for three at the plate this year.

OU plays #103 Lipscomb tomorrow at 11:00 AM..

Re: Softball
Tech beat Iowa State, 5-3, after losing to Iowa State last night. It was the first Iowa State win in the Big Twelve.
Texas 5 Oklahoma State 3 Kansas 2 Baylor 2 in the fourth. Baylor won 3-0 yesterday. Baylor won 3-2 on a sac fly in the seventh. |

If you want to watch the OU-Tennessee game, here is the link to it on Watch-ESPN.

Re: Softball
Our guys played solid and consistent. And confident. Was hoping for run rule. Didn't come - though in the next game against Radford it did. ?

I think the biggest issue is playing focused every game. That's what Patty is teaching them. The Arkie game should have been run-rule too and that was why Patty wasn't too happy after that game. When they are all focused, look out! |
Re: Softball
Jayden struck out twelve in a complete game 2-0 win over Lipscomb. Pendley left after being hit in the nose with a pitch. She was down for a while. Romero took the day off, except that she came on as the DH late. Arnold and Hatfield each singled home runners for the two runs. Jayden is now 7-0.

Re: Softball
OU beats Lipscomb 2-0. We have won 13 in a row now.

Re: Softball
OU 9, 9, 2
Tennessee 0 Radford 0 Lipscomb 0 Since Bama took two of three from Kentucky this weekend, Bama and Tennessee are now tied for third at 12-6. Florida and Auburn are both 15-3. |
Re: Softball
Why wasn't the Tennessee game a run rule? First, Ou was up 8-0 and then OU was up 9-0 and they keep playing - all 7 innings. ?
|
Re: Softball
Because we scored the eighth and ninth runs in the top of the seventh inning. That meant Tennessee got to bat in the bottom of the inning. You get to complete the inning if you are the home team.

Re: Softball
No TV, of course, and I didn't get to listen to the radio broadcast, but Chestnut's stat line was really outstanding. The freshman gave up just three hits, struck out 12 and issued zero free passes.
That last number is probably the most significant. If Jayden's control remains that sharp through the rest of the regular/post season, the Sooners will be hard to beat. Not many teams can trot out four pitchers with the ability of Parker, Chestnut, Stevens and Finney. Also, it will require a collapse of epic proportions to prevent our Sooners from qualifying to host a regional and, if they hold serve, a super regional. Any news on Pendley? Haven't seen any updates since sybarite reported on this board that she was hit in the nose by the Lipscomb pitcher and had to leave the game. |
Re: Softball
Also, the new RPI rankings should come out later today. Can't wait to see if our clean sweep at Knoxville moves us up a spot to #2.

OU still #3 in the RPI behind Florida and Michigan and in front of Auburn and Alabama.

The new rankings that will come out tomorrow may move us up some from the No. 9. Of course, that really isn't as big a factor as the RPI. As long as we remain in or around the top 10, our strong RPI should keep us where we want to be. |
Re: Softball
If the rpi were to be used exactly as it now stands, these would be the anticipated super-regionals.
UCLA at Florida LSU at Michigan Baylor at Oklahoma Tennessee at Alabama Kentucky at Auburn Missouri at James Madison Louisiana-Lafayette at Oregon Florida State at Washington If these were the teams, I would expect Baylor to end up at Bama or Auburn rather than OU. OU might get Missouri. Louisiana-Lafayette, having already played Oregon and Florida, might be sent to Auburn or Alabama. Oregon might end up with Kentucky or Tennessee with Washington getting the other. This is simply trying to avoid conference rematches. I think it is imperative that OU refrain from losing. We simply don't have a good opponent left that will help our rpi overcome a loss. We have benefited from the way some of our opponents have played. Bama and Tennessee are tied for third in the SEC. UCLA is second, and Utah is third, in the Pacific Twelve. Minnesota and Michigan are running away with the Big Ten. I think we are 8-4 against the top 25 and 17-7 against the top 50. We don't have a bad loss, Kansas (#42) being our worst loss. |
Re: Softball
I think the one thing that is surprising happened last week. OU swept Texas at home and moved from #7 to #3. Texas had an RPI of #36. I am hoping that #36 Tulsa and #40 OSU hold the same effect. Texas Tech is #82 and Iowa State is #172. We will find out after this weekend. I expect OU will drop behind Bama after this week. We need Tennessee and Auburn to split this week.
