Re: Softball
That was a stunner of an article. Kady Self to 1B, Kelsey Arnold to SS and Sydney Romero to 3B. I would have never guessed that one. I guess Fale Aviu will be in LF.

Re: Softball
That was a ringing endorsement of the fielding prowess of Kelsey Arnold. You have the best player in the country coming in that plays shortstop and move Arnold to short?

Kady did not play at all in the Fall. I never felt she was totally recovered in the field last year with her knee. However, her bat was vital to the team and will be even more vital this year. It looks like it is going to take a while for Lundburg to develop. It was Paris Townsend at 1B. Fale Aviu can really hit so it was going to be tough keeper her out of the lineup. Same goes for Lea Wodach. One thing for sure though, I trust in Patti. It was not normal to move Lauren to lead off in the 2013 either but it worked. I guess the biggest question have this year is still J. T. Gasso at hitting coach. |

Re: Softball
The thing that caught my attention during the "Fall season" was Romero's average. I realize that it was not against quality pitching. But, it is difficult to go 16-18 in batting practice. Maybe, you can do that in slow pitch.

Re: Softball
Never would have thought that Erin Miller who arguably is an incredible outfielder would lose a position to Fale Aviu, a frosh. Patti is playing for the future. I also find it interesting that Lundberg moved to OF.

Re: Softball
I looked back at the Fall stats, as best I could keep them with not everything reported on livestats, and Aviu had a good hitting Fall. She was six for thirteen in what I saw, with a double and two triples. One of the things that we will probably be more concerned about this year will be strikeouts. If you don't have the home run ball as much, you need to move runners along. As I understand, Romero, Knighten, and Aviu were very difficult to strikeout in HS and summer ball.
I look for Self to have a good year. She was still one of my favorites in clutch situations. Makes contact. |
