Here are the latest news, notes and quotes on Oklahoma’s coaching search from Monday:
* Perhaps the big news of the day was Oklahoman Berry Tramel’s article and comment that he’s hearing Castiglione is ready to spend up to two million dollars for a new coach. Here’s an excerpt:
But indications are OU won’t skimp on this hire. OU people in position of influence have told me the Sooners are ready to pony up. Ready to pay as much as $2 million a year to get their man. And it’s looking more and more like that man is Buzz, who some say is ready to return to his Southwestern roots even though he has his Marquette Golden Eagles in the Sweet 16.
* And maybe the second-biggest news of the day was another report (or rumor depending on how you view it) of Marquette head coach Buzz Williams and Oklahoma. ESPN’s Pat Forde tweeted this Tuesday afternoon:
Shaka Smart and Chris Mooney will be high on every list, other than the seemingly likely Buzz Williams to Oklahoma move.
* The Tulsa World has an article by Guerin Emig with quotes from Sooner players Steven Pledger, Andrew Fitzgerald, Carl Blair and Romero Osby talking about the dismissal of Capel. Here’s an excerpt:
“It caught me by surprise, I’m not gonna lie to you,” said Osby, the Mississippi State transfer Capel often referred to as OU’s best player while he sat out 2010-11. “But it happens every day in life nowadays. You could be going to work one morning and your boss can tell you they’ve found somebody else.
“It’s something I’m starting to cope with. I’m getting better with it.”

* The Norman Transcript also has an article with some good quotes from the players about the coaching change. Here’s an excerpt by Carl Blair:
“I hate to see coach go, but I’m trying to stay ready for whoever the next guy is,” Blair said. “Whenever he comes in, I’ll be ready to work hard for him.”
