Sooners prepare for big recruiting weekend

To say Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel is on a roll would be a massive understatement. The Sooners have already received verbal commitments from two of the top players in Texas in Cameron Clark and T.J. Taylor, but the Sooners staff is far from done in 2010.

This weekend the University of Oklahoma basketball program is welcoming two of the most prolific perimeter players in the country to Norman for official visits in one of the most impressive recruiting weekends in recent memory.

OUHoops.com previews the duo of visitors who will be receiving the red carpet treatment in Norman this weekend.

HARRISON BARNES
Wing Forward, 6’6″, 206 | Ames, IA | Ames H.S.
Rivals: | ESPN: | Scout:
College Choices: Oklahoma, Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, UCLA, and Iowa State
Scouting Report: Barnes may be the most complete offensive player in the 2010 recruiting class. The nations top wing has the range to knock down shots from the perimeter. He can attack the basket with his smooth athleticism and finish at the rim, or he can hit a pull up jumper from mid-range. He is nearly impossible to stop offensively and can seemingly create his own shot with ease. Solid rebounder from the wing and a great defender. Barnes has a high basketball IQ and works hard on the court. Will be an absolute super star in college and, likely, beyond.
Recruiting Analysis: For the past several weeks it has seemed that this race was developing into a Duke-North Carolina battle, but the race is far from over. The Sooners are a major darkhorse in this race and will have the opportunity to feature themselves this weekend. The top wing man in the nation has developed a very strong relationship with Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel, but will it be enough to lead him to Norman? Barnes will make his visit this weekend to OU, then take four more visits in consecutive weeks before making a decision in November. An early decision is likely out of the question, but the Sooners are certainly a realistic option.

DORON LAMB
Shooting Guard, 6’4″, 175 | Queens, NY | Oak Hill Academy
Rivals: | ESPN: | Scout:
College Choices: Oklahoma, Kansas, Kentucky, and Arizona
Scouting Report: Lamb has the potential to be a great collegiate scorer. Can be streaky from beyond the perimeter, but consistently finds ways to get the ball into the basket. When he turns on his aggressiveness there are few defenders around who can stop him. He is not the most athletic guard in the class, but simply finds a way to get it done for his team. Uses his size and length to his advantage. High basketball IQ with great coachability and a high ceiling.
Recruiting Analysis: Lamb is the only weekend visitor who has a chance of making a decision in Norman, but the likelihood is still slim. His father has said he is only set to visit two schools: Oklahoma and Kansas. Those two have long been rumored to be the leaders for the talented wing man and the Sooners get to fire the first shot with him this weekend. Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel has developed a strong relationship with Lamb and has pushed the potential for him to replace Willie Warren on the perimeter for the Sooners in 2010.
